General Summary

Under the general direction of Associate CIO, The Director of Enterprise Data and Analytics is a strategic leadership role responsible for advancing UMass Chan's enterprise reporting, analytics, and data platform capabilities. This role oversees the design, delivery, and continuous evolution of modern analytics solutions leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and enterprise data platforms to enable data-driven decision-making across academic, finance, research, and administrative domains.

This position sits at the intersection of technology and institutional strategy, translating complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and high-value analytics solutions while fostering a culture of data literacy and governance.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
Strategy, Governance & Platform Leadership
* Define and execute the enterprise reporting and analytics strategy aligned with institutional priorities.
* Provide leadership for the architecture and evolution of enterprise data platforms, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and related technologies.
* Establish and govern the enterprise analytics operating model, balancing centralized platform services with federated domain ownership.
* Define and oversee enterprise data integration and pipeline strategies across multiple source systems.
* Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, including data quality, security, privacy, and compliance standards.
* Drive standardization of KPIs, reporting definitions, and enterprise data assets to ensure consistency and trust.
* Lead the development and management of certified data products, semantic models, and a single source of truth for institutional data.
Enterprise Reporting Delivery & Operations
* Oversee the design, development, and delivery of enterprise dashboards, reports, and analytics solutions.
* Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of data platforms, reporting systems, and data pipelines.
* Enable both centralized reporting and governed self-service analytics capabilities across the institution.
* Define and manage the analytics intake, prioritization, and delivery processes in alignment with institutional priorities.
* Monitor adoption, usge, and effectiveness of analytics solutions; continuously improve based on user feedback and outcomes.
* Establish metrics to measure value realization, including adoption, data quality, and time-to-insight.
Stakeholder Engagement & Value Realization
* Partner with academic, research, finance, and administrative leaders to understand strategic priorities and data needs.
* Translate business requirements into scalable analytics solutions, roadmaps, and delivery plans.
* Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership by providing insights and recommendations that inform decision-making.
* Lead or participate in cross-functional governance bodies (e.g., data governance council) to drive institutional alignment.
* Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement across UMass Chan.
* Advance data literacy by enabling effective use of enterprise data and reporting tools across stakeholder groups.

Qualifications

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's degree preferred)
* 10+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or data engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role
* Proven experience leading enterprise-scale reporting, analytics, or data platform initiatives
* Strong expertise in modern data platforms (data warehouse/lake/lakehouse), with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI experience preferred
* Deep understanding of data integration, pipelines (ETL/ELT), and multi-source data environments
* Demonstrated experience establishing and operationalizing enterprise data governance frameworks, including data ownership, stewardship, data quality, metadata management, and access controls
* Experience delivering analytics and data platform solutions in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., healthcare, higher education, finance, or similar)
* Proven ability to translate business needs into scalable, high-impact analytics solutions
* Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and executive communication skills

Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in higher education, academic health, or complex enterprise environments
* Familiarity with enterprise systems (ERP, HR, research, student systems)
* Experience implementing enterprise data platform transformations or modern analytics operating models
