What is an analytics manager?

An analytics manager translates raw data into insights that a business can use. Usually leading a team of analysts, your job duties include developing data analysis strategies, tracking and reporting on performance, implementing tools and solutions, and overseeing all analytics operations. You must stay up-to-date on current industry trends. Strong communication and analytical skills are required. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in statistics, data management, or information technology and proven career experience in market research, statistical modelings, or project management.

How does an analytics manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business insights?

Analytics Managers frequently work alongside teams such as marketing, product development, finance, and operations to translate data into actionable business strategies. They facilitate meetings to understand stakeholder goals, guide data collection efforts, and present findings in a way that's accessible to non-technical audiences. This cross-functional collaboration ensures that insights are aligned with business objectives and that projects are implemented effectively. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an analytics manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analytics Manager, you need strong analytical skills, data interpretation expertise, leadership experience, and typically a degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies. These competencies ensure data-driven decision-making, effective team leadership, and impactful business outcomes.

  • Support consistent, high-quality Statements of Work (SOWs) grounded in reliable cost data.
  • Enable the pursuit of multiple complex opportunities concurrently by providing scalable, repeatable cost and pricing analysis.

Commercial Partnership & Governance
  • Reduce reliance on technical and delivery resources for commercial cost work by owning that analysis directly.
  • Provide cost and margin insight to inform pricing decisions and protect target margins.
  • Contribute to the achievement of revenue and margin targets through improved cost discipline

Company Values:
• Supports and adheres to Company's core values.
• Supports and adheres to Company's Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy

  • Demonstrated experience in cost analysis, pricing, commercial operations, or financial/data analytics.
  • Strong quantitative and data-analytics skills, including building and maintaining cost or pricing models.
  • Experience supporting complex proposals, quoting, or contracting in a B2B environment.
  • Ability to translate cost drivers into clear commercial recommendations for non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the utility, energy, metering, or technology-solutions sector.
  • Familiarity with quoting/CPQ systems and SOW development.
  • Proficiency with analytics tooling (e.g. advanced spreadsheet modeling, BI/analytics platforms).
  • Prior experience introducing or maturing an analytics methodology within a commercial or finance function.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
• Working Conditions: Typical indoor office environment with the majority of time spent sitting and working on a computer using keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Occasional use of other devices such as: phone, copier/printer/fax, etc.
