Terms of Employment
W2 Contract, 12 Months (Potential to convert to perm)
This position is primarily remote. With that said, candidates must live in the DMV area as onsite work is required once per month for PI Planning, and occasionally for other team meetings or events.

Overview
Work with a premier healthcare organization supporting a critical Federal Employee Program that manages enrollment data for more than two million members. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will step into a core backfill role tasked with ensuring the stability and performance of high-volume, legacy core enrollment systems. This position offers the perfect bridge for a veteran engineer: immediate, high-impact work maintaining vital legacy codebases alongside an organization-wide commitment to future modernization using cloud and AI tools.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize high-volume legacy core enrollment applications to ensure continuous data processing accuracy.
Write, modify, and review application code within the core mainframe architecture.
Collaborate actively with cross-functional teams during quarterly PI (Program Increment) planning sessions and monthly on-site meetings.
Adopt a self-starter mindset to rapidly map out legacy logic and take on expanding operational responsibilities as the system evolves.
Participate in future-state training and R&D efforts using tools like Amazon Q and Amazon Transform to build system documentation and assist in application modernization.

Required Qualifications
8+ years of deep, hands-on software engineering experience within an IBM mainframe ecosystem.
Advanced proficiency in COBOL programming, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
Prior experience working with healthcare information technology, specifically dealing with enrollment or claims data systems.
Must currently reside within the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia) metro area or approved regions of West Virginia, with the physical capability to commute on-site monthly.
Full eligibility for long-term permanent hire without requiring visa sponsorship or policy exceptions.

Preferred Qualifications
Conceptual awareness or basic exposure to cloud environments (specifically AWS) or AI modernization utilities.
Previous experience or familiarity with Java, Spring Framework, or microservices, provided the candidate remains dedicated to core mainframe execution.
