Job Summary:
Dice is seeking a Senior z/OS Systems Programmer / Mainframe Systems Programmer to support and maintain the z/OS 3.1 mainframe environment. This role focuses on ensuring system software availability, reliability, and performance while coordinating with application and infrastructure teams to maintain stable production operations.
Responsibilities:
• Monitor system software access, performance, and resource utilization.
• Maintain the z/OS 3.1 and JES2 software environment.
• Support application teams to ensure issues do not impact production operations.
• Provide 24/7/365 support, including after-hours on-call coverage.
• Install, customize, and maintain IBM and third-party software using SMP/E and mainframe utilities.
• Manage z/OS PARMLIB, HCD, USS file systems, mount points, and NFS-related support.
• Perform upgrades, maintenance, and resiliency exercises across multiple LPARs and datacenters.
• Analyze SYSLOGs, traces, dumps, and monitoring data to resolve system and product issues.
• Support backup, recovery, business recovery testing, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Coordinate with IBM and ISV vendors for problem determination and resolution.
• Use ServiceNow for incident and request tracking.
• Support Broadcom and BMC product maintenance, along with IBM monthly maintenance and RSU processing.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 10+ years of mainframe software management experience, especially on z/OS.
• Strong knowledge of SMP/E, z/OSMF, JCL, IBM utilities, and mainframe debugging tools.
• Experience with CICS, DB2, MQ, Connect:Direct, CAMS/CAMIM, JES2, USS, and related subsystems.
• Experience with hardware configuration using HCD on IBM z16/zNext platforms.
• Ability to write, read, and debug batch and online programs.
• Strong understanding of security authorization, backup/recovery, and system standards.
• Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and support emergency situations.
• Willingness to work variable hours and possibly travel as needed.
Preferred:
• z/OS 3.1 operating system support on IBM z16 processors.
• z/OSMF software management and automated rollout packaging.
• Performance monitoring using RMF, SYSVIEW, and Tivoli Omegamon.
• Experience with storage, networking, production control, change control, and system automation teams.
• Experience supporting multi-datacenter failover and resiliency exercises.
