Job description

DEPARTMENT: Extrusion

JOB TITLE: Extrusion Operator 1

REPORTS TO: Shift Facilitator with the direction from the Team Captain

SHIFT DAYS /HOURS:  3rd Shift Position Sunday night to Wednesday night (9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) over the course of 4 days (40+ hours). Friday (Thursday night) could be scheduled as needed.

STARTING PAY: $20.96 to $27.52 based on Aluminum Extrusion experience.

As an Extrusion Press Operator, you may be required to perform various tasks, including running the press, die changes, and inspection. Additionally, you will be responsible for visually monitoring parts for surface defects. It is important to keep your work areas clean and safe. 

To qualify for this role, you must be able to run an aluminum extrusion press, read and understand a tape measure, operate the overhead crane, use micrometers, lift to 50 pounds, and read and understand shop orders.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Running the Extrusion Press
  • Inspecting parts
  • Monitoring and removing press scrap
  • Visual checks
  • Temperature monitoring 
  • Must be able to read and understand a tape measure
  • Assist other personnel and perform other duties as required per supervisor.
  • Inform the Supervisor of any equipment problems or any other problems.
  • Work in a safe manner always wearing all required Proper Protective Equipment (PPE). 
  • Maintain a clean, clutter-free workstation. 
  • Able to participate in a collaborative environment. 
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures. 
  • Accepts feedback from the Team Captain to ensure the bundles meet safety standards.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned. 

Work Environment / Physical Demands:  

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and always without air conditioning. 

What You Will Need: 

  • HS Diploma/GED  
  • Must also pass a skills-based test.
  • Prior experience running an Aluminum Extrusion Press   
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively; self-motivated; self-starter. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  
  • Must be conscientious, diplomatic, and detail oriented. 
  • Must pass a company background check and drug screen.
