Description The primary purpose of the Johnston County Department of Social Services (JCDSS) is to provide mandatory and non-mandated programs and services to citizens of Johnston County. JCDSS is responsible for providing Child Protective Services, Foster Care and Adoptions, LINKS, Services for Adults and Disabled individuals, Adult Protective Services, Guardianship, determining eligibility for Public Assistance (TANF, Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, LIEAP, Crisis Intervention, Daycare, General Assistance) and a full range of social and support services to eligible recipients.

Johnston County Department of Social Services has an immediate opening for a Processing Assistant III in the Clerical Unit. We are seeking a highly motivated self-starter to join the Clerical Unit to assist with mailroom duties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, the ability to multitask, be people-oriented, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are important for interacting with internal and external customers. Excellent organization and computer skills are a must with attention to detail and accuracy. Duties and Responsibilities The Processing Assistant III - Mailroom Processor is a full time position, in which 50% of the time will be performing mailroom duties that include picking up and distributing mail on the agency's campus and within Johnston County.

These duties include but are not limited to receiving and sorting incoming mail, preparing outgoing mail for distribution, scanning mail and or documents, responding to agency staff regarding mail. The other 50% of the duties will provide clerical assistance to staff in a specified area with data collection and entry into local and state systems, proofreading materials and disseminating information. This position will be cross trained to serve as a receptionist on the DSS campus, greet customers and visitors and assist with directing them to the appropriate location and or services needed.

Periodic performance of emergency on-call duties may also be required. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Providing a variety of office support and technical assistance to accomplish mail flow throughout the agency.

Receiving, prepping & scanning mail into the electronic data management system. Interacting with internal and external customers in regards to supply requests & orders, delivery of mail, and questions regarding items scanned. The person selected for this position must perform the above duties while ensuring that timeliness and documentation requirements are maintained as mandated by State and County regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices. General knowledge of and ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and specialized vocabulary; ability to proofread. General knowledge of office accounting, database management and record keeping procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment.

Ability to use spreadsheet software applications such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Ability to learn and apply a variety of guidelines. Ability to use a variety of office equipment.

Ability to work with people with courtesy and tact. Ability to screen communications based on predetermined guidelines to independently respond or route inquiries. Ability to record and compile information based on general guidelines.

Ability to gather and give information and instructions regarding the work process or procedures. Ability to balance and reconcile figures. May require ability to coordinate work of other support staff, student workers or volunteers.

Ability to learn to use specialized office equipment. Desired Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licensing and Certifications: Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
