The Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is seeking up to two 100% Abstractors to ย participate in and support a federally funded public health surveillance program, the CDC ย ADDM Network, focused on monitoring of autism spectrum disorder. The individual(s) will be ย a record review and abstraction specialist for the Minnesota Autism and Developmental ย Disabilities Monitoring Network (MN-ADDM). This project is funded by the CDC to ย participate in the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM). The ย ADDM Network are a group of programs funded to estimate the number of children with ย autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities living in different areas of ย the United States. Successful applicant(s) must uphold strict confidentiality policies and procedures. The ย Abstractor(s) will participate in project activities, including participating in data collection of ย education and health records through utilization of a complex web-based data system, ย interfacing with partners in a highly professional manner, and maintaining reliability on ย CDC ADDM Network methodology. Abstractor(s) will report to Project Coordinator and will ย provide regular updates on abstraction progress. The Abstractor(s) is(are) expected to collaborate ย with other Institute staff and with other researchers on various research and knowledge ย translation activities on other ICI activities as assigned.ย

This position is based on campus and involves local travel to clinical and educational sites.ย Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by yourย manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health, data security, and safety procedures.ย ย
This position is represented by the AFSCME Local 3937 and 3801 Council 5, AFL-CIO. The hours are M-F, 8:00-4:30. The work location is on the Minneapolis campus. The pay range for this position is $22.39 - $29.00 per hour.
Bargaining unit consideration begins on May 29, 2026 and ends on June 4, 2026.

Job Responsibilities:
Quantitative and Qualitative Data Collection (85%)
- Conduct population-based, multi-source surveillance for developmental andย intellectual disabilities among children using methodology developed by theย Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Travel regularly to schools, hospitals and clinics in the metro area to conductย surveillance by reviewing source records and abstracting relevant medical,ย demographic, and diagnostic information.
- Work independently to determine data to be included in the project based on theย CDC surveillance protocol.
- Work directly with school and clinic personnel to access the files, maintainingย excellent communication and professionalism.
- Adhere to data security and confidentiality procedures.ย
- Achieve and maintain reliability on CDC methods, participating in training asย required.ย
- Enter both narrative and quantitative data obtained from multiple sources into aย complex web-based central database using a laptop computer.ย
- Maintain relationships with sources and answer data collection methodology related questions from educational and clinical agencies.ย
Data Analysis (10%)ย
- Collaborate with the project coordinator and principal investigator on surveillanceย findings, questions and problems.ย
- Assist with organizing, preparing and presenting data for meetings andย presentations.ย
Project Team Activities (5%)ย
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Participate in training and events.
- Maintain professional development, which includes completing and passingย necessary training quizzes and evaluations.
- Attend CEHD, ICI, Center, or required meetings as well as those requested byย supervisor to attend.ย
