Job Title: After School Associate Date available: August 2026
Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:Bernard Zell seeks a thoughtful, detail-oriented, mature, and responsible individual to fulfill the afternoon role as a part-time BZ Beyond Associate. BZ Beyond is the after-school care program. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be exceptionally collaborative and collegial, and share a great enthusiasm for children and their learning in this independent Jewish day school
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the positive growth of children from nursery to 4th grade.
  • Plan and facilitate afternoon activities such as crafts, building blocks, imaginative play, and time outside.
  • Be responsible for the safety and supervision of a group of children.
  • Work collaboratively with other BZ Beyond staff as well as older student volunteers who assist in the BZ Beyond classrooms.
  • Mentor and role model of Bernard Zell's mission.
  • Communicate regularly with the BZ Beyond Lead.
  • Occasional full-day help with day-off camps throughout the school year.
  • Set-up and clean-up of BZ Beyond classrooms.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or Higher
Experience:
  • Teaching and supervisory experience with young children is necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with basic child development milestones and a drive to actively develop new skills in youth recreation and behavior management.
  • Ability to lead and participate in recreational activities that are engaging and developmentally appropriate for groups of children from preschool through 4th grade.
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to maintain a safe, organized, and positive environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Monday - Thursday, 3:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Occasional help on days off from 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. if available
  • 10-month position beginning in late August
Compensation: Bernard Zell offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and a supportive workplace culture. This is an hourly non-exempt position that pays $17.05 per hour.
