The Sheridan County YMCA is looking for enthusiastic After School Assistants to help create a safe, fun, and engaging environment for youth in our after school program.
At the Y, we're more than a workplace-we're a community dedicated to strengthening youth, families, and our community through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
What You'll Do
As an After School Assistant, you'll help create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to learn and grow. You'll work alongside our After School Director and team to:
  • Supervise children in a safe and positive environment.
  • Lead and participate in games, crafts, homework help, and enrichment activities.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and fellow staff.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized classroom.
  • Ensure child-to-staff ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Assist with transportation safety procedures.
  • Complete required program documentation and daily time records.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, family events, and program activities.
  • Model the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
What We're Looking For
  • At least 15 years old
  • Experience working with children is preferred but not required-we'll train the right person!
  • Friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic
  • Able to work well as part of a team
  • Comfortable leading activities and interacting with children of various ages
  • Willing to complete required YMCA certifications, including:
    • CPR & First Aid
    • Child Abuse Prevention
    • Emergency Procedures Training
Physical Requirements
This is an active position! You'll be expected to:
  • Walk, stand, run, bend, reach, and lift as needed.
  • Participate in games and activities with children.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment where every day is different.
