PACES After School Care Assistant 
SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT After School Programs
LOCATION:  
REPORTS TO Site Coordinator, Principal, After School Program Director
WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday - Friday
WORK HOURS 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
MONTHS/YR: 10
POSITION PURPOSE: 













  • Assist the After School Site Coordinator with all activities involving the safe and effective operation of an after-school program
  • Provides assistance in the supervision and instruction of children, leads age-appropriate activities, assists students with homework, and performs duties assigned by the Site Coordinator
     

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to lead and assist students in indoor and outdoor games and activities and to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, laminators, projectors, etc.
  • Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work
  • Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving and receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions
  • Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, hand books, forms, lists, etc. Requires the ability to prepare instructional materials, using prescribed format
  • Able to communicate effectively, possess excellent oral and written communication skills (grammar, spelling, etc.)
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English
  • Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; to multiply and divide; calculate decimals and percentages; and compute discounts, ratios and proportions
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape
  • Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment
  • Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of office machines, and to lead physical activities and games and to serve as role-model participant, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

  • Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress
  • Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear

 
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE 

  • School age care experience preferred
  • Associates degree preferred, high school diploma required, and/or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic School Age Care (BSAC) and playground safety
  • CPR/First Aid SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 
  • Ability to work flexible hours for occasional morning meetings, training, early release days, and late pickups

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • School age care experience
  • School Age Child Care Credential

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow all rules, policies and procedures of Pender County Schools, along with state and federal regulations
  • Work with after school staff to establish and maintain a safe, caring, and vibrant learning environment
  • Set-up after school centers daily, maintain a tidy area, and clear away at the end of the day
  • Monitor and interact with children during program activities
  • Assist with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating after school activities
  • Administer first aid to children as required for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs
  • Maintain current certifications in CPR and basic first aid
  • Attend meetings, workshops, classes, seminars, conferences, etc. to meet training requirements
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator and/or Principal 

WORKING CONDITIONS PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. from floor to waist height.
  • Must be able to react to a student who is 20-30 feet away within 30 seconds 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  Must be able to work in a school environment, and come into direct contact with staff and students
