Senior Systems Engineer - OT Infrastructure
New Orleans, LA / Houston, TX/ Little Rock, AR/ Jackson, MS

Full time

Role Overview: ComTec is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to design, implement, manage, and support enterprise OT infrastructure strategy. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in virtualization technologies, including VMware, hyperconverged infrastructure platforms such as Nutanix, and Linux systems administration within production environments. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, performance, and compliance of critical infrastructure services, including servers, operating systems, virtualization platforms, databases, backup and recovery solutions, disaster recovery frameworks, and storage systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and implement OT infrastructure strategy, roadmaps, and delivery plans in coordination with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity teams.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain virtualized infrastructure using VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Manage Nutanix clusters, including Prism administration, upgrades, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Administer Linux-based servers (installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and performance optimization).
  • Monitor system health, troubleshoot incidents, and perform root cause analysis for infrastructure issues.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
  • Support infrastructure for critical OT systems, including SCADA, Distribution Automation, Smart Grid, and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
  • Provide Tier 3 escalation support, including on-call availability to maintain system uptime for critical OT operations
  • Collaborate with network, storage, and security teams to ensure seamless infrastructure integration.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Perl).
  • Perform system upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
  • Maintain documentation for systems architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.


Required Skills
:

  • 3 7+ years of experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong experience in at least three of the following technologies: Windows/Linux OS, VMware, Nutanix, NetApp, EMC, Cisco UCS, Commvault, Active Directory, or patch management tools.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, control systems, Smart Grid technologies, and electric utility distribution networks.
  • Strong hands-on experience with VMware virtualization (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter).
  • Practical experience managing Nutanix HCI environments (clusters, Prism, AHV preferred).
  • Solid expertise in Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar).
  • Understanding of storage concepts (SAN, NAS, RAID, replication).
  • Experience with networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing basics).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and system performance analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ISACA certifications: CISSP, CISM, CISA
  • VMware certifications (VCP or higher).
  • Nutanix certification (NCP or equivalent).
  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments).
  • Exposure to backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc.).
  • Understanding of ITIL processes.
