MECHANICAL ENGINEER - OPENING 1

Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc. May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 8+ years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.


The Legacy Engines and APU Structures Group within the Component Design & Analysis (CDA) directorate is responsible for the design, development and analysis of static gas turbine engine components. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing and leading subordinate efforts on stress, vibration, and heat transfer analyses. Responsibilities include providing technical expertise on a variety of engine and power systems programs. You will use your expert knowledge of engineering discipline and standards, processes and tools to ensure compliance to customer and program requirements. Other responsibilities include communicating with Project engineering teams, resource and manpower planning, conduction of design reviews, presentations to internal and external customers, ensuring proper documentation of work performed and engaging and leading department process improvement initiatives.



MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - OPENING 2

The Sr Advanced Engineer position will be responsible to conduct all evaluations performed on FanC components and systems for a team of Engineers supporting Production, Supplier Transition / Reposition and Value Engineering initiatives, including Quality (FAIR, RMRAs, QNs), Drawing Interpretation, Supplier substantiation (ESA, STICS, STR, FTR, SCS), and Design Change (ECN, EMA, Deviation Waiver) Processes.

The Sr Advanced engineer must be adept at performing a functional evaluation (Identification of engine boundary conditions, design requirements) across multiple engine models and part families. He will be conducting 3D finite element thermal, stress and modal analyses, strength, vibration, stress rupture, deflection, and life evaluations. In addition, he must have sufficient Engines and APU design and manufacturing experience to provide the necessary problem-solving guidance to the team.

The applicant must be able to thrive in an Agile environment and successfully work with local and global analysis teams, create statements of work, review analysis output, and communicate effectively with manufacturing personnel, suppliers, customers, and Chief engineers.

Supporting process transformation to reduce design and manufacturing cost and cycle time is an important aspect of the position.


YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and requirements including casting, machining, welding, heat treatment.
  • Strong Drawing Interpretation skills, including GD&T.
  • Knowledge of the gas turbine engine industry, specifically in regard to how the design requirements are communicated and maintained in production, through the following processes:
    • Quality Processes, including inspection methodologies, FAIR & RMRA review.
    •  Supplier Substantiation Processes, including ESA, STICS, STR, FTR, SCS documentation.
    • Design Change Processes, including ECNs, EMAs, etc.
  • Proven understanding and application of fatigue, and finite element analysis
  • Capability of performing complex analyses and hand calculations of engine FanC components
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to interact with engineering teams, other disciplines, and external (supplier or customer) parties.
  • FEA (ANSYS or equivalent), 3D modeling (CAD), and GOM analysis (Structured light scan) of gas turbine engine FanC components.
