Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support our Cyber Risk Assessment Program in Huntsville, Alabama. This position is responsible for developing high-quality technical documentation, executive briefings, and customer-facing products that communicate complex cybersecurity, risk assessment, and emerging technology initiatives to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who can transform highly technical engineering and cyber risk information into compelling narratives for senior government leadership. This individual will work directly with engineers, cybersecurity professionals, program managers, and government stakeholders to develop reports, briefings, documentation, and presentation materials supporting critical mission objectives.

This is a highly visible customer-facing position requiring regular interaction with senior government officials, including General Officers (GO), Senior Executive Service (SES) personnel, and other executive decision-makers.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, author, edit, proofread, and maintain technical documentation, program deliverables, executive reports, user guides, manuals, installation documentation, training materials, and contractual deliverables in accordance with the Statement of Work (SOW), Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), and applicable Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
  • Develop executive level briefing materials and presentation decks that effectively communicate cyber risk assessments, emerging technology initiatives, and program status to senior government leadership.
  • Translate highly technical cybersecurity, engineering, and risk assessment data into clear, concise language suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop compelling visual presentations that tell a cohesive story using Microsoft PowerPoint, ensuring complex information is presented in an easily understandable and actionable manner.
  • Utilize Adobe Acrobat Pro to create, edit, and combine PDF documents. 
  • Manage SharePoint repositories by uploading new content and ensuring the most current document versions are accessible to users.
  • Work directly with government customers, engineers, cybersecurity analysts, software developers, system architects, Release Train Engineers, testers, and program leadership to gather information and develop accurate documentation.
  • Support the development of executive communications, white papers, decision briefs, technical reports, strategic communications, and other customer deliverables.
  • Create and maintain standardized document templates utilizing advanced Microsoft Word formatting, styles, and document automation features.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of contractual documentation and deliverables, ensuring compliance with program standards, customer requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate document configuration management, version control, and final delivery in collaboration with Data Management personnel.
  • Manage multiple documentation efforts simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced program environment.
  • Apply documentation best practices aligned with CMMI Maturity Level 3 processes, Agile methodologies, and government documentation standards.
  • Support program planning activities by maintaining documentation schedules, milestones, and deliverable timelines using Microsoft Project.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical exchanges, and program reviews while representing the documentation team professionally.

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense cybersecurity, cyber risk assessment, or emerging technology programs.
  • Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), key management systems, and cybersecurity technologies.
  • Experience supporting multi-disciplinary engineering and software development teams.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments.
  • Extensive experience producing CDRL documentation on large system or software development programs.
  • Thorough understanding of CMMI ML3 documentation standards, DIDs, and government acquisition documentation.
