Job description

The Accounting Intern supports the accounting team by preparing, organizing, and verifying financial data prior to entry and review. This role focuses on building foundational accounting knowledge while assisting with documentation, data preparation, and administrative tasks that support accurate financial reporting and efficient workflows. All entries prepared by the intern are subject to review and approval by accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities

Data Preparation & Entry Support

  • Prepare batches of invoices, receipts, and financial documents for entry into the accounting system
  • Assign preliminary GL coding based on established guidelines
  • Ensure supporting documentation is complete and properly organized before submission
  • Assist with data entry under supervision, ensuring accuracy and completeness

Accounts Payable & Receivable Assistance

  • Organize vendor bills and customer payment documentation
  • Match invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documents
  • Flag discrepancies or missing information for review by accounting staff

Reconciliation Preparation

  • Gather and organize documentation for bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Match receipts to transactions and identify missing or unmatched items
  • Highlight discrepancies or unusual transactions

Month-End Close Support

  • Assist in organizing documentation required for month-end close
  • Prepare schedules and supporting reports for review
  • Ensure all documentation is properly labeled and filed
