What are ad agencies and what do they do?

Ad agencies, or advertising agencies, are companies that specialize in creating, planning, and managing advertising campaigns for businesses and organizations. Their primary goal is to help clients promote their products, services, or brands to target audiences through various media channels such as television, radio, digital, print, and social media. Ad agencies often offer additional services like market research, branding, creative design, media buying, and strategic planning to maximize the effectiveness of their clients' marketing efforts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at an advertising agency, and why are they important?

Success at an advertising agency requires a solid grounding in marketing principles, creativity, and an understanding of branding strategies, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, analytics tools, and creative software like Adobe Creative Suite is highly valued. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate across teams help individuals stand out in this fast-paced environment. These competencies are essential for developing effective campaigns, meeting client objectives, and thriving amidst constant industry changes.

What are the most common challenges faced by account managers working in ad agencies?

Account managers in ad agencies often juggle multiple client accounts, tight deadlines, and rapidly changing project scopes. Balancing client expectations with creative team capabilities requires strong communication and organizational skills. Additionally, adapting to shifting market trends and ensuring campaigns deliver measurable results can be demanding, but these challenges also provide excellent opportunities for professional growth and skill development.

Collier Simon

Job description

Collier.Simon is an independent, full-service creative agency in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area. We work with our client partners to develop creative solutions that truly move the needle. Clients range from Fortune 500-type household names to up-and-comers across a variety of industries and verticals.

Weโ€™re also in the middle of a tech-powered transformation, and curiosity is at the heart of it. We use AI to supercharge creativity, not replace it, and weโ€™re actively exploring how new tools can help us scale, spark, and speed up the work. Weโ€™re looking for people who get excited about trying new things, asking โ€œwhat if we tried it this way?โ€, and bringing that experimental mindset to every project they touch.

Weโ€™re looking for a sharp, organized, go-getter Account Executive with 1โ€“3 years of marketing/advertising experience. Success in this role hinges on three things: superb project management skills, the instinct to anticipate what clients and teammates need before they ask, and the kind of get-it-done attitude that keeps work moving.

You mustโ€ฆ

  • Be a strong project manager โ€” comfortable owning timelines, juggling multiple workstreams in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, and keeping details on track
  • Be proactive by nature โ€” you anticipate what clients and team members needย
  • Have a true go-getter, get-it-done attitude โ€” you take initiative, follow through, and donโ€™t need to be chased
  • Have hands-on experience supporting multi-channel campaigns
  • Be adept at working quickly and multi-tasking under tight deadlines
  • Be comfortable interfacing with clients and agency partners in a clear, polished, and responsive way
  • Have outstanding communication skills (written and presentation)
  • Be comfortable working remotely on West Coast hours
  • Be curious about new tools and tech โ€” open to experimenting with AI and other emerging tools as part of how we work

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Drive the day-to-day project management of all client work โ€” own timelines, dependencies, and the rhythm that keeps projects moving
  • Anticipate client needs and surface them early โ€” flag risks, ask the right questions, and bring solutions, not just status updates
  • Anticipate team needs โ€” identify what your creatives, leads, and partners need to do their best work, and clear the path for them
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with key client contacts
  • Develop and monitor project timelines, holding the team and yourself accountable to them
  • Provide administrative and client service support on assigned accounts
  • Work with art directors, copywriters, external agencies, and other client service team members to ensure work is delivered on time, on budget, and exceeds expectations
  • Help review, evaluate, and critique creative ideas/output to ensure that work meets brand and project strategies/objectives, client requests, and agency quality standards
  • Help develop, edit, and fine-tune client presentations, creative decks, new business proposals, and case studies
  • Manage client assets and key project information in support of creative work
  • Document discussions during client meetings and key internal meetings โ€” and follow up on next steps without being prompted
  • Actively participate in strategic planning sessions, brainstorms, and creative meetings with a point of view
  • Keep apprised of clientsโ€™ brands/products/services/marketing developments and general trends in advertising โ€” including how AI and emerging tech are reshaping the industry

What Youโ€™ll Need

  • 1โ€“3 years of marketing or advertising experience in an agency environment
  • Demonstrated project management chops โ€” proven ability to keep complex, multi-stakeholder projects on track
  • A proactive mindset โ€” always thinking a step ahead and anticipating whatโ€™s coming for clients and the team
  • A get-it-done attitude โ€” dependable execution, ownership of outcomes, and the drive to push work across the finish line
  • Strong communication skills โ€” both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage time, load-balance, and stay calm under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and timeliness โ€” ability to adhere to (and enforce) strict timelines
  • Dependability in execution of work and as a member of the team
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to effectively interface with internal and external teams
  • Enthusiastic, solution-oriented attitude in accepting work and new challenges
  • A curious, experimental mindset โ€” youโ€™re excited to learn, try new tools (AI included), and bring fresh thinking to the team

What We Offer

  • An open, collaborative, creative environment where ideas rule and everyone has the opportunity to create โ€” and to help shape how we evolve our craft alongside new technology
  • Benefits including healthcare, 401K, and vacation/PTO to be shared in greater detail during the interview process

To Apply:
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter about your experience in an advertising or creative environment.

Benefits

Benefits including healthcare, 401K, vacation/PTO policy to be shared in greater detail during the interview process.
