Department Summary

University Centers and Events (UCE) encompasses the University Union, Gateway Center and Coliseum. University Centers and Events (UCE), provides quality programs, services, and facilities that enhance the educational experience and create a community for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. We assist students to become good citizens of a global community.

Position Overview

The Mail Specialist is responsible for preparing incoming and outgoing mail for distribution at Eagle Post. May load and unload postal trucks and move mail around the University. Operates equipment as related to mail services. Provides guidance to campus community on Postal rules and regulations. Performs customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma/GED equivalent and two years of postal office or mail services. Can substitute United States Postal Service (USPS) certification of experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of postal practices, methods, and regulations.
Skill in basic filing and recordkeeping.
Skill in evaluating facts or situations to route calls/customers appropriately.
Skill in courteous communications with public in various communication modes.
Manual dexterity and physical ability to perform work requiring standing, stooping, lifting, walking, and some weather exposure.
Ability to learn a delivery/pick-up route.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Valid driver's license.

Job Duties

  • Presorts letter mail and packages. Keeps up-to-date on changing United States Postal Service (USPS) rules and regulations and United Parcel Services (UPS) mailing requirements and ensures compliance. Works the customer service window and processes retail purchases and postage. Cash handling for transactions Processes first-class mail and/or packages. Distributes packages into lockers. Observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. 

Physical Requirements

Communicating with others to exchange information.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Operating machinery and/or power tools.
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards

Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

M-F 8am - 5pm
