As Pittsburgh’s largest non-profit developer, ACTION-Housing exists to help people improve their lives by offering quality, affordable housing. We pride ourselves on helping all of our clients to achieve more self-sufficient lives. Since 1957, we’ve assisted a wide array of populations throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, focusing on those generally underserved by traditional services including senior citizens, veterans, individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, individuals on the autism spectrum, and youths who have aged out of foster care.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for evaluating client applications for the Housing Stabilization Program, which aims to help individuals avoid eviction and maintain their current housing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide guidance and support to clients who are delinquent on rent, helping them understand available resources and next steps.
  • Collect and record applicant demographic information, landlord banking and tax details, outstanding rent amounts, and other required data in designated databases.
  • Review and assess client applications to determine qualification for rental assistance funding.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records for clients and landlords.
  • Ensure current data and statistical information related to clients is consistently updated and organized.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all steps within the rental assistance program to provide support across all stages as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Three (3) years’ experience in housing support services required OR an Associate’s Degree with one (1) year of relevant client services experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates strong customer service abilities, including effective communication and professional phone interaction.
  • Possesses working knowledge of landlord/tenant relationships and related housing dynamics.
  • Proven ability to build rapport, collaborate with partners, conduct outreach, and engage individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Counseling or social work experience is highly beneficial.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • General office environment.
  • Physical strength to manipulate light to medium weight materials weighing 10 to 15 pounds on a regular basis.
