Job description

Matrix Medical Management is looking for a full-time Accounting Manager to join our team in our Bellaire office!

SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing general accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and leading the month-end and year-end close processes. This role supervises accounting staff, maintains the general ledger, and ensures compliance with GAAP and internal controls. The Accounting Manager partners with the Controller to support financial reporting, audits, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversee and maintain the general ledger, including review and approval of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Lead and ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close processes
  • Review balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all accounting transactions and financial records
  • Review and approve monthly account reconciliations
  • Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and support cash management activities
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal accounting policies
  • Maintain and monitor internal controls related to accounting processes and financial reporting
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and required documentation
  • Respond to requests for financial information from leadership and auditors
  • Assist with financial reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting as needed
  • Identify and support process improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions
  • Review expenses for policy compliance and appropriate classification
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
  • Assign, prioritize, and review work assignments to ensure deadlines and accuracy standards are met
  • Approve employee timesheets and manage team scheduling, including PTO, coverage, cross-training, and workload balancing
  • Conduct performance evaluations in collaboration with the Controller
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management, including corrective action when necessary in partnership with Human Resources
  • Ensure staff are properly trained and cross-trained to support departmental continuity and efficiency
  • Perform other related tasks as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and GAAP
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to develop, coach, and mentor staff
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP or similar)
  • Ability to maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate financial information to leadership
  • Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across teams
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and operational efficiency

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or
  • Four years of experience in lieu of education
  • Four (4) years of accounting experience in a healthcare setting
  • Three (3) years of experience in a leadership role
