JOB OVERVIEW: REGIONAL ACCOUNT MANAGER - UTILITY VEGETATION MANAGEMENT (UVM)

The Regional Account Manager (UVM) is responsible for driving revenue growth, strengthening strategic customer relationships, and supporting the successful delivery of utility vegetation management services within an assigned geographic territory. This role serves as the primary liaison between ArborWorks and utility, municipal, cooperative, government, and commercial clients, ensuring customer needs are understood, proposals are competitive, and operational solutions align with client expectations and company objectives.


The Regional Account Manager plays a critical role in business development, contract acquisition, market expansion, and account retention by collaborating closely with Operations, Business Development, Estimating, and Executive Leadership teams. This position contributes directly to sustainable growth by identifying opportunities, developing client partnerships, supporting the bid process, and ensuring exceptional service delivery across the assigned region.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development & Client Relations:

  • Identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities within utility vegetation management and related service markets.
  • Build, maintain, and expand relationships with utility companies, municipalities, cooperatives, government agencies, engineering firms, and other key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and responsiveness.
  • Conduct client meetings, presentations, site visits, and industry outreach activities to promote ArborWorks services.
  • Develop territory growth strategies that support company revenue and customer retention goals.
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity to identify opportunities and risks.

 

Proposal Development & Estimating Support:

  • Review RFPs, RFQs, bid specifications, maps, contract documents, and technical requirements to evaluate opportunities.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, and customer site assessments.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Estimating teams to define appropriate staffing, equipment, production assumptions, and pricing strategies.
  • Assist in the development of cost models, budgets, and pricing structures for competitive bid submissions.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain pricing and scope information as required.
  • Support the preparation, review, and submission of proposals, estimates, and bid packages.
  • Participate in internal bid reviews and provide recommendations regarding project viability, risks, and opportunities.

 

Account Management & Operational Coordination:

  • Support successful contract implementation by coordinating communication between customers and operational teams.
  • Ensure customer expectations, project scope, schedule requirements, and deliverables are clearly communicated and documented.
  • Participate in customer meetings, contract reviews, and performance discussions throughout project execution.
  • Assist Operations with contract modifications, change order development, and customer requests as needed.
  • Facilitate resolution of customer concerns while maintaining strong business relationships.
  • Promote collaboration between field operations and customers to ensure service excellence and contract compliance.

 

Strategic Planning & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, opportunities, and contract information.
  • Develop forecasts, territory plans, account strategies, and pipeline reports.
  • Track and report key performance indicators related to business development and customer retention efforts.
  • Analyze business opportunities and market conditions to support strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain organized documentation of bids, contracts, proposals, and customer communications for future reference.

 

Industry Representation:

  • Represent ArborWorks professionally at industry conferences, trade shows, customer events, and association meetings.
  • Promote ArborWorks’ safety culture, operational capabilities, and service offerings throughout the assigned territory.
  • Foster positive relationships with industry partners, vendors, and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate and uphold ArborWorks’ Core Values in all interactions.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance customer experience and operational performance.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Business, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Utility Operations, or related field experience is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in utility vegetation management, arboriculture, forestry, utility operations, account management, business development, sales, estimating, or a related industry.
  • Experience supporting utility, municipal, cooperative, government, or commercial contracts preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with RFPs, bids, contract administration, and customer relationship management.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of utility vegetation management operations and industry practices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain long-term customer relationships.
  • Strong business development, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to evaluate specifications, maps, contracts, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in estimating concepts, cost analysis, and pricing strategies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with CRM systems, business reporting tools, and vegetation management software preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

 

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to maintain eligibility to operate company vehicles.

 

Required Training:

  • ArborWorks Safety Orientation.
  • Defensive Driving Training.
  • Customer Service and Professional Communication Training.
  • Company-required compliance and safety training programs.
  • Additional training as assigned to support business and operational objectives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • ISA Certified Arborist.
  • Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP).
  • Utility Arborist Association (UAA) credentials or participation.
  • Experience working with investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, municipalities, or government agencies.
  • Knowledge of utility vegetation management software, GIS platforms, and asset management systems.
  • Experience in contract negotiations, account strategy development, and large-scale utility service agreements.
  • Understanding of line clearance tree trimming operations, work planning, and utility safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with transmission and distribution utility systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Hybrid role consisting of field, customer-site, home office, and corporate office work environments.
  • Frequent travel throughout the assigned territory, including overnight travel as business needs require.
  • Regular attendance at customer meetings, bid walks, industry conferences, and operational locations.
  • Work may be performed in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and uneven terrain.
  • Exposure to active vegetation management operations, utility rights-of-way, construction zones, and roadside work environments.
  • Occasional visits to field job sites requiring compliance with all safety standards and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb moderate terrain, and operate standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
