Account Manager Director information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account manager director, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Manager Director, you need robust experience in client relationship management, sales strategy, and a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, data analytics tools, and sometimes industry-specific certifications are typically expected. Outstanding leadership, negotiation, and communication skills help you build strong client partnerships and effectively lead account teams. These skills are crucial for driving revenue growth, retaining key clients, and ensuring successful team and client outcomes.

What does an account manager director do?

An Account Manager Director oversees a team of account managers and is responsible for developing and maintaining strong client relationships at a strategic level. They ensure client satisfaction, manage large or key accounts, and coordinate with internal teams to deliver solutions that meet client needs. Additionally, they often play a significant role in driving business growth, negotiating contracts, and contributing to the overall account strategy of the organization.

What is the difference between Account Manager Director vs Account Executive?

AspectAccount Manager DirectorAccount Executive
CredentialsBachelor's degree, experience in account management, leadership skillsBachelor's degree, sales or marketing background often preferred
Work EnvironmentOversees teams, strategic planning, client relationship managementProspecting, client meetings, sales presentations
Employer & Industry UsageMarketing, advertising, B2B servicesSales-driven industries, tech, advertising

The Account Manager Director typically leads account management teams, focusing on strategic client relationships and long-term growth. In contrast, the Account Executive primarily handles sales activities, prospecting, and closing new business. While both roles require strong communication skills and industry knowledge, the Director role emphasizes leadership and strategy, whereas the Executive role centers on sales execution and client acquisition.

How does an account manager director typically balance strategic client relationships with internal team leadership responsibilities?

An Account Manager Director often serves as both the primary liaison for key clients and the leader of a team of account managers. Balancing these responsibilities involves setting clear priorities, delegating tasks effectively, and maintaining strong communication channels with both clients and internal stakeholders. Directors are expected to drive strategic growth for client accounts while mentoring their teams, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and aligning team goals with organizational objectives. This dual focus requires excellent time management and the ability to anticipate and address challenges proactively.

You will drive the full vendor lifecycle (contract execution, labor rate negotiation, invoice and billing accuracy, safety prequalification, and performance accountability) to ensure Amerit receives consistent, safe, and fairly priced service from every vendor in your territory.

You won't just be managing paperwork; you will be the trusted relationship owner who keeps vendors engaged and responsive while holding them firmly accountable to their contracts, rates, safety standards, and scorecard results. • Commitment to your safety through boot and prescription safety glasses reimbursement

  • Contract Development and Execution: Manage vendor agreements from execution through renewal for both new and existing vendors in your region, ensuring terms are current, consistent, and enforceable. Ensure every vendor performing work for Amerit is on a contract (Interim or Standard).
  • Rate Negotiation & Billing Accuracy: Negotiate standardized labor rates using historical billing and invoice data, analyze invoice detail to confirm vendors bill at the correct agreed-upon rate, and identify and resolve billing discrepancies directly with vendors.
  • Safety Qualification & Accountability: Administer the vendor safety prequalification process for your region, review safety documentation, track non-responsiveness or incomplete qualification, and flag outliers for escalation.
  • Vendor Performance & Scorecard Accountability: Maintain and apply the Vendor Scorecard to track rate compliance, safety, quality, and responsiveness; use results to drive coaching conversations, corrective action, or vendor network changes.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Serve as the consistent, trusted point of contact for vendor questions, issues, and escalations in your region, building working relationships that keep vendors engaged and willing to partner on rate and process improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with Legal on contract language, risk terms, and dispute resolution, and report scorecard and vendor performance trends to leadership to inform vendor strategy.

Key competencies:

  • A business-focused way of thinking with a strong, hands-on, results-driven mentality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to hold vendors accountable while maintaining a collaborative relationship.
  • Responsive, resourceful, and comfortable addressing performance or billing issues directly and professionally.
  • Bias for action, takes initiative.
  • High ownership, vendor-obsessed, and deadline accountable.

  • Experience auditing invoices or billing data for accuracy is highly preferred.
  • System and data skills to include Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred experience with vendor management systems, safety prequalification platforms, and AI-powered tools (Co-pilot, Claude, Gemini, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • Role will require travel (5-10% as needed) within the assigned region for vendor site visits and escalations, as needed, and will manage with frugality within the team travel budget. Travel may include team meetings.
  • Based within or near the assigned region (United States).
