What is account based marketing?

Account Based Marketing (ABM) is a strategic approach to business marketing in which an organization considers and communicates with individual prospect or customer accounts as markets of one. Rather than casting a wide net, ABM focuses marketing and sales resources on a clearly defined set of target accounts, personalizing campaigns and messaging to each account. This approach often leads to higher engagement rates, improved alignment between sales and marketing teams, and increased return on investment, especially in B2B environments.

How does an account based marketing professional typically collaborate with sales teams to drive results?

In an Account Based Marketing role, close collaboration with sales teams is essential to identify high-value target accounts, align on messaging, and coordinate outreach strategies. ABM professionals work with sales to develop personalized campaigns and share insights from engagement data, ensuring both teams are focused on the same goals. Regular meetings and shared metrics help maintain alignment, enabling both marketing and sales to nurture leads more effectively and accelerate the sales cycle. This partnership is key for measuring ROI and achieving successful account penetration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account based marketing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Account Based Marketing, you need expertise in targeted marketing strategy, data analysis, and a solid understanding of B2B sales cycles, often supported by a marketing degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with CRM platforms, marketing automation tools like HubSpot or Marketo, and account intelligence software is typically required. Strong collaboration, communication, and project management skills set standout ABM professionals apart. These competencies are vital for effectively orchestrating multi-channel campaigns and driving high-value account engagement and revenue growth.

What is the difference between Account Based Marketing vs Content Marketing Specialist?

Job description

About Us
At LangChain, our mission is to make intelligent agents ubiquitous. We build the foundation for agent engineering in the real world, helping developers move from prototypes to production-ready AI agents that teams can rely on. We began as widely adopted open-source tools and have grown to also offer a platform for building, evaluating, deploying, and operating agents at scale.
With $125M raised at Series B from IVP, Sequoia, Benchmark, CapitalG, and Sapphire Ventures, we're at a stage where we're continuing to develop new products, growth is accelerating, and all team members have meaningful impact on what we build and how we work together. LangChain is a place where your contributions can shape how this technology shows up in the real world.
Today, our platform includes LangSmith (Observability, Evaluation, Deployment, Fleet, and Sandboxes), our open source frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, and Deep Agents), and the newly launched LangSmith Engine for autonomous agent improvement. We have 100M+ monthly open source downloads, 6,000+ active LangSmith customers, and 5 of the Fortune 10 use LangSmith in production (+ 35% of the Fortune 500 overall), including teams at Klarna, Clay, Coinbase, Workday, Lyft, Cloudflare, Harvey, Rippling, Vanta, LinkedIn, Monday.com, Nvidia, and Bridgewater.
About the Team:
You'll join our Field Marketing team at LangChain, which drives pipeline and revenue by moving must-win accounts into technical evaluation and expansion through high-intent, high-touch programs.
About the Role:
In this role you will own the account-based marketing strategy for our Strategic segment, with the goal of generating and accelerating pipeline for our highest revenue potential customers. You'll partner closely with Strategic sales leadership to build 1:few omni-channel campaigns and lay the foundation for 1:1 engagements, and you'll be directly accountable for the pipeline results those campaigns produce.
Location: San Francisco, New York City or Remote
What You'll Do:
  • Own the account-based marketing strategy for our Strategic segment, and be directly accountable for generating and accelerating pipeline for the Strategic sales team
  • Partner with sales teams to define an Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and select target account and contact list
  • Build and execute 1:1 and 1:few omni-channel campaigns across email, custom landing pages, paid social, ads, and events, using account and contact-level insights to guide decision-making
  • Collaborate daily with sales reps and SDRs to synchronize outreach and share account insights
  • Tailor messaging and assets to address the specific business pain points of buying committees
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute in-person and virtual events, including high-touch roundtables and hospitality events, based on regional pipeline gaps and sales priorities
  • Measure pipeline growth, target reach, and ROI using marketing tools and CRMs
  • Influence and shape priorities across teams (field marketing, demand gen, product marketing) based on what the Strategic segment actually needs
  • Partner with partner marketing and channel partners to drive co-marketing initiatives that extend reach
What You'll Bring:
  • 6-8 years of experience in an account-based marketing role in a high-growth environment
  • Proven experience owning, executing, and measuring 1:1 and 1:few ABM motions across channels such as paid media, email, content syndication, direct mail, and events
  • Experience generating pipeline directly for a sales organization
  • Track record of influencing cross-functional teams
  • Deep understanding of B2B buying cycles and how marketing motions map to pipeline stages
  • Comfort with data: you use pipeline and campaign performance data to make decisions, not just report on them
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with ABM platforms (e.g. 6sense, Demandbase) and multi-touch attribution tooling
  • Experience marketing to enterprise or Strategic-tier accounts in a technical, developer-oriented category
