Assistant Manager - Retail Dispensary
At Justice Grown, we're looking for a motivated retail leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys developing people while ensuring operational excellence.
As an Assistant Manager, you'll support the Dispensary Manager in leading the daily operations of the dispensary while helping create a positive, customer-first culture. You'll play a key role in coaching team members, driving performance, maintaining compliance, and ensuring every patient and customer receives an exceptional experience.

What You'll Do
As the Assistant Manager, you'll support the Dispensary Manager in overseeing daily dispensary operations while helping lead the team, drive performance, and maintain operational excellence.
Your responsibilities include:
People Management
  • Leads by example in creating a positive atmosphere, encouraging a customer first philosophy, and promoting a global mindset.
  • Ensures the consistent delivery of an exceptional customer experience via staff training and development and the enforcement of Justice Grown's policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Provides on-going coaching and regular individualized feedback to all Team Members.
  • Maintains records on staff performance (productivity, sales, attendance, etc.) and ensures plans for performance improvement are instituted in a timely manner where required.
  • Supports the DM in interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, training, and managing dispensary staff.
  • Helps train and develop staff in accordance with Justice Grown's policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Holds all team members accountable for performing in a manner that is consistent with individual job descriptions, position goals/KPIs, and the Justice Grown's Code of Conduct.
  • Utilizes rewards, recognition, and personal development tools to continuously encourage optimal levels of employee engagement and performance.
  • Supports the DM by documenting HR matters relating to employee performance and discipline.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Sales & Operations
  • Ensures all staff are trained on dispensary SOPs and state compliance protocols.
  • Ensures relevant legislative and procedural changes are communicated and trained to dispensary staff.
  • Maintains knowledge on all aspects of the medical cannabis industry to ensure customers are benefitting from current and effective cannabis practices.
  • Supports the DM in achieving individual and dispensary KPIs including but not limited to sales, customer service, inventory levels, payroll, and overall profit metrics.
  • Provides feedback to the DM, Marketing, and Inventory Coordinator regarding local product markets and inventory trends.
  • Makes suggestions to the DM on improvements to business processes and practices.

Inventory Management
  • Supports accurate and efficient inventory tracking based on system metrics and results.
  • Ensures SOP compliance personally and amongst staff to promote reporting consistency, mitigate loss, and achieve state compliance.
  • Communicates need for adequate stock levels, proper product assortment, and consistent replenishment planning.
  • Makes suggestions to the DM and Inventory Coordinator for products, specials, and campaigns.

Cash Management
  • Ensures cash in store is regularly counted, cross-checked, and balanced.
  • Ensures cash tracking procedures are followed to mitigate potential loss.
  • Reports variances to the DM and assists in the prompt investigation and resolution of cash-related issues.
  • Holds the dispensary team accountable for consistent and accurate cash handling and ensures that the team is following processes and procedures designated by the Justice Grown's Financial Controller.

Safety, Security & Compliance
  • Ensures safety and security standards are consistently upheld.
  • Partners with the security team to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to personnel and property.
  • Ensures all team members act in accordance with all safety, security, and compliance protocols.

What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is an experienced retail leader who enjoys coaching teams, supporting operational excellence, and delivering outstanding customer experiences.
Qualifications include:
  • 3+ years of experience in high volume, fast-paced customer-facing team management.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with cannabis preferred.
  • Self-starter with proven motivational and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while maintaining focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

Computer Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with point of sale, inventory, and transaction tracking systems including Alpine IQ, LeafLogix, Veriscan, Microsoft Office, Metrc, and other systems used to facilitate medical marijuana sales.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position assists the Dispensary Manager in supervising dispensary team members and supporting daily leadership responsibilities. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, employee development, and documentation of performance and disciplinary matters. The Assistant Manager is expected to lead by example, promote accountability, and help foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
