Job description

Description:

The ABC operator will follow the direction of the ABC Supervisor or designee, to complete tasks of the ABC department. This position requires the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes, among other heavy equipment. The ABC Operator responsibilities also include ensuring their area is kept clean, preparing machinery and equipment for use, and performing tasks of their department. The ABC Operator strictly follows all health and safety guidelines.


To be successful, they must demonstrate safe work habits, be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, have exceptional attendance, and have communication skills. The ABC Operator must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency while always maintaining individual and team safety and the highest standards of quality. A great ABC Operator must also have a willingness to learn and improve through on-the-job training. They must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions and will work well alone or as part of a team.


Schedule: Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm


Essential Duties:

• Use of blast media equipment

• Use of dip tank equipment

• Application of coatings

• Assembly of products

• Packaging of products

• Evaluate, ensure safe operation of, and make maintenance requests for all machines and process within the department.

• Complete tasks and monitor progress to ensure projects are met on-schedule.

• Adhere to the department’s schedule.

• Operate equipment and use safe work habits.

• Attend all-plant and all-staff meetings.

• Demonstrate constant awareness and concern for the safety of self and others

• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workstation and production floor

• Participate actively in safety update meetings and audits

• Safely and efficiently operate forklift and overhead crane

• Follow production guidelines and specifications

• Maintain logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces

• Meet and exceed quality standards, continuously seeking to improve the build process

• Report issues, incidents, faulty operations, or product imperfections during the production

• Check output to spot any mistakes or flaws

• Escalate to Supervisor to stop the assembly and halt production if machinery fails or a major defect is detected in the product

• Follow all safety, quality, and efficiency procedures to ensure that operations run smoothly

• Inspect equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment

• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Minimum of 6 months of industrial assembly, painting, blasting, and chemical treatment related experience or similar

• Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office products is a plus

• Experience operating overhead a bridge crane and forklift is a plus

• Ability to follow directions and work well in a team or independently

• Thorough understanding of and the ability to quickly learn production equipment

• Understanding of and the ability to abide by and adhere to applicable OSHA safety and environmental regulations (such as constant use of protective gear)

• Attention to detail

• Highly motivated, driven, and self-starting

• Good time management & organizational skills

• Strong communication skills including writing, speaking and active listening with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff


Physical Requirements:

• Employees will work in environments that may include exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, dust, noise, lead, and dryness/humidity

• Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that may entail frequent climbing, bending, and stooping

• May be required to walk for long periods of time over a large area

• Frequently required to bend or twist the body

• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds at a time

• Use hands to handle, control, manipulate, or feel objects, tools, or controls

• Must be able to climb up to and down from heights

• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to read instructions, operate machines, inspect parts produced, and be aware of surroundings at all times

• Prolonged periods of wearing personal protective equipment, such as respirators, face masks, other breathing protection, or breathing equipment, safety glasses, work gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots

• Regularly exposed to contaminants and uncomfortable noise levels within the environment

• Regularly exposed to hazardous situations and equipment, such as high-speed or high-heat machines, lathes, overhead cranes, and various lift machines

• Regularly working around forklift traffic and around heavy loads over 1 ton
