Job description

The following full-time position at Big Walnut High School is open for qualified applicants:

  • Educational Interpreter  - begins with the start of the 2026.2027 school year, the contract is for 183 days and the schedule/ hours are to be determined. Employment process is completed through the ESC of Central Ohio.

Description: 
Provide interpretive services to facilitate communications between an elementary student with hearing and/or communication disabilities through oral and signed language. This individual will work with the student in a public school setting and provide interpreting services for hearing impaired parent(s) during school-related meetings and other necessary functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

         Valid ODE interpreter for the hearing impaired license
         Must provide current/clean BCI and FBI background checks upon hire
         Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
         Self directed, congenial disposition, and strong interpersonal skills
         Demonstrated proficiency in spoken English



Desired Qualifications:
         Experience working with individuals with hearing impairments.
         Ability to provide interpretive services in a variety of settings.
         Proficient in communication skills including but not limited to:


         American Sign Language, Pidgin Signed English and Signed Exact English

         Skilled in the use of alternative forms of communication (e.g. gestures, mime, etc.)

Salary: Commensurate with experience and in accordance with specified salary schedule

Reports To: Director of Student Services
