Job description

Description Under direct supervision, is responsible for determining initial eligibility for public assistance programs and maintaining communication with clients who have previously been determined to be eligible for public assistance to evaluate continued eligibility; performs other duties as required. Duties 55% Determines applicant's initial eligibility for Public Assistance programs (e.g., TANF/OWF, Medicaid, SNAP/Food Assistance, Child Care, etc.). Approves or denies applicant's program eligibility based upon established State and Agency regulations and procedures

Explains applicant's rights and responsibilities; ensures recipient has signed and understands required documents; explains respective Public Assistance programs. 30% Interviews customers to determine ongoing/continued eligibility for Public Assistance programs (e.g., TANF/OWF, Medicaid, SNAP/Food Assistance, Child Care, etc.) via phone through the Public Assistance shared services call center or face-to-face. Initiates correspondence by issuing forms and requesting verifications

Responsible for paperwork processing and case documentation. 10% Makes appropriate referrals when additional assistance is needed for community and state agencies for further assistance. 5% Attends conferences, workshops, training sessions and staff meetings to give and exchange information pertaining to Public Assistance operations.

Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications --One year of experience as an Eligibility Referral Specialist 1; --Or two years ofexperience as a Unit Support Worker 2; --Or completion of undergraduate major core coursework in behavioral science, social science, or education, on course or six months experience in interviewing techniques, and one course or six months experience in typing, keyboarding, or word processing; --Or completion of two years of technical education in behavioral science or social science, one course or six months experience in interviewing techniques, and one course or six months experience in typing, keyboarding, or word processing; --Or two courses or one year of experience in behavioral science, social science, or customer service techniques, one course or six months experience in business mathematics, one course or six months experience in business English, one course or six months experience in interviewing techniques, and one course or six months experience in typing, keyboarding, or word processing. Or education, training, and/or experience in an amount equal to the Minimum Qualifications stated above.
