Job description

Make a difference by turning your own recovery experience into hope and support for others.

We are looking for a part-time Peer Specialist to join our team and provide meaningful support to individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. This role uses the power of lived experience to help clients build confidence, connect with resources, and work toward greater independence and vocational success.

As a Peer Specialist, you will use your personal experience with mental health recovery to connect with clients in a unique and authentic way. Youโ€™ll provide encouragement, share recovery-oriented strategies, help clients identify their strengths and goals, and connect them with resources that support their personal and vocational success.

Schedule: 20 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support, encouragement, and advocacy to clients experiencing mental illness.
  • Use personal lived experience with mental health recovery to build trusting, supportive relationships.
  • Help clients identify personal strengths, goals, and steps toward recovery and greater independence.
  • Connect clients with community, vocational, educational, and other supportive resources.
  • Assist clients in overcoming barriers to employment and achieving vocational goals.
  • Collaborate with the team to support client-centered recovery goals.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and communication regarding services provided.

Requirements:

  • Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery and the ability to use that experience in a professional, recovery-focused manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Compassion, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Peer Support Specialist certification, or ability to obtain certification.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance.
