Job description

We are looking for a Certified Medication Aide to join our amazing team!

Description: Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) safely administers prescription medications to residents in nursing homes and residential care facilities in accordance with Ohio Revised Code, Chapters 4723 and rules 4723-27-01 through 4723-27-09 and applicable community policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescription medications under nurse supervision according to Ohio law.
  • Administer oral, topical, nasal spray, drops, rectal, vaginal, and inhalant medications as permitted by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Administer insulin via pen device when trained and authorized by the Company
  • Follow the Six Rights of Medication Administration: right resident, right drug, right dose, right route, right time, right documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all medication administration, including refusals or adverse reactions.
  • Monitor residents for medication side effects and promptly report concerns to supervising nurse.
  • Ensure the safety of residents including timely reporting to licensed nurse refusals and deviations from medication administration.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and treat all residents with dignity, courtesy, and respect.
  • Comply with universal and standard precautions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Refrain from delegating medication administration to others.
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure optimum services to residents as requests and needs change.
  • Maintains open communication with manager and/or peers to promote awareness of resident issues.
  • May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned. Will not accept any other duties or resident care assignments that conflict with medication administration.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an Ohio Board-approved Medication Aide Training Program
  • Successful completion of CMA application and examination
  • Current certification as a CMA in Ohio
  • Ability to communicate effectively, read medication labels, and perform basic medication administration and documentation.
  • Must successfully complete the ESL medication competency upon hire and as required by state regulation at a minimum
  • First Aid and CPR Certification if required by state law and/or Company standards
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Must comply with all Ohio Administrative Code rules for CMA practice (4723-27).
  • Must maintain active certification and complete required continuing education for biennial renewal.
