Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry position requiring 2+ years of acute care experience and current EPIC proficiency.
Details
- Work on a Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry unit within a cancer hospital and research setting
- Care for patients admitted for continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
- Treat soft tissue malignancy patients receiving diagnostic services, chemotherapy, and symptom management
- Manage symptoms secondary to disease progression or treatment, along with comorbidities
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall risk management
- Utilizes B450 monitors with GE telemetry system, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM), with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
- EPIC EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active RN license (Ohio state or compact) required in hand at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with current acute care experience in the specialty within the last 12 months
- BLS certification required
- EPIC charting system experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Skills required: interpretation of dysrhythmias, accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, PICC line management, IV starts, assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management, and interpretation of ABGs
- Additional preferred skills: chemotherapy administration, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), tracheostomy care, PCA management, and insulin drip titration
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients requiring telemetry monitoring and symptom management
- Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is welcomed
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required, and first-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
- Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
- RTO must be requested and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing contract, either by traveling to a local fingerprinting location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet if outside driving distance
