Job Description:
Position Summary
The Solar Team Safety Manager is a field-based role supporting multiple projects across the Michigan and Ohio regions. Projects include a mix of residential roof-mounted modules, light commercial ground and roof systems, and commercial ground-mounted solar installations. This role serves as a coach, auditor, incident reviewer, and support resource for the project team. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of fall protection, electrical safety, ladders, piling, and trenching equipment, and bring strong communication skills, time management, and a self-driven work ethic to the role.
Responsibilities
Training
  • Assess and determine training needs across projects; verify current training status and arrange sessions accordingly
  • Track training expirations and coordinate retraining as needed
  • Conduct training sessions including work instructions and competent person training across various subjects
  • Develop and update training presentations and hands-on training materials

Compliance
  • Perform daily job site inspections using Smart Safety Pro in coordination with superintendents and foremen
  • Assign corrective actions and follow up to ensure closure
  • Provide guidance on best practices, new product implementation, and field trials
  • Set the example on site, hold the line on safety standards, and deliver coaching where needed

Culture
  • Train and implement the SafeStart behavior-based safety program; incorporate SafeStart into daily conversations and periodically assess foremen and above on usage
  • Bring the solar team up to speed on Safety 24/7 skills including MAP, BIG 3, conversations, and all remaining components
  • Restart and lead team safety committee meetings; set agendas, expectations, and drive participation and accountability

Qualifications
  • Background in construction safety; solar or renewable energy experience strongly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of fall protection, electrical safety (NFPA 70E), ladder safety, piling, and trenching equipment
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and EPA standards
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence field personnel
  • Ability to work independently in a high-production environment (50+ hours/week, including nights and weekends as needed)
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; must be comfortable with site-to-site travel and overnight stays
