Job description

PLC Programmer / Controls Engineer 
Position Summary
The PLC Programmer / Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, configuring, testing, and supporting industrial automation solutions for automated packaging, labeling, vision inspection, and material handling systems. The role will work closely with software engineers, vision system providers, middleware teams, and manufacturing operations to ensure reliable end-to-end system performance. 
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain PLC programs for automated packaging and material handling systems. 
• Configure and troubleshoot PLC logic, I/O modules, sensors, actuators, conveyors, printers, and vision systems. 
• Develop ladder logic, structured text, and function block programming. 
• Configure and troubleshoot MQTT, OPC-UA, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet communications. 
• Integrate PLCs with middleware platforms, vision systems, barcode scanners, HMIs, label printers, and robotics equipment. 
• Perform FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup support, and production troubleshooting. 
• Execute root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. 
• Support deployment, maintenance, and operational readiness activities. 
Mandatory Technical Skills
• Expert-level experience programming Siemens PLCs using Siemens TIA Portal (Mandatory). 
• Strong hands-on experience with Siemens S7-1200, S7-1500, and related PLC platforms. 
• Proficiency in Ladder Logic (LAD), Function Block Diagram (FBD), Structured Control Language (SCL), and Function Block programming. 
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting Siemens HMI systems (WinCC). 
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols including MQTT, OPC-UA, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP/IP. 
• Experience integrating PLCs with vision systems, barcode scanners, label printers, conveyors, and robotics. 
• Ability to troubleshoot PLC-to-device, PLC-to-middleware, and PLC-to-cloud communication issues. 
• Experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, startup support, and production troubleshooting. 
• Strong knowledge of industrial automation architecture and manufacturing operations. 
• Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. 
Note: Siemens TIA Portal expertise is a mandatory requirement. Candidates without significant hands-on experience developing, troubleshooting, and deploying PLC solutions using Siemens TIA Portal will not be considered. 
Preferred Qualifications 
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. 
• 10+ years of PLC programming experience. 
• Experience with packaging automation, material handling systems, and vision system integration. 
• Experience with AWS-connected manufacturing or Industrial IoT environments. 
• Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare, medical device manufacturing, or pharmaceutical automation.
