Job description

Special Needs Caregiver – Before & After School Support

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Schedule: Before & After School

Compensation: $17.00/hour

We are seeking a compassionate and dependable caregiver experienced in supporting individuals with special needs, including autism spectrum disorder, non-verbal communication, and Sanfilippo Syndrome. The ideal candidate provides patient, structured, and individualized care that helps each child thrive.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support morning and after-school routines (dressing, hygiene, breakfast, transitions, snack, and structured activities).
  • Maintain routine and consistency to reduce anxiety and promote comfort.
  • Use visual supports such as picture schedules and charts to aid understanding.
  • Apply positive reinforcement to encourage communication and progress.
  • Create a calm environment and reduce sensory overload when needed.
  • Demonstrate patience and flexibility, adapting to each child’s unique needs.
  • Support participation in educational, recreational, and community activities.
  • Assist with daily living skills, personal hygiene, and transportation as needed.
  • Accurately document services provided, maintaining compliance with CMS, DODD, OOD, and CARF standards.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful environment, upholding dignity and person-centered values.
  • Teach new hard and soft skills and provide input for Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).

Qualifications

  • Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder, non-verbal communication, or developmental disabilities.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to compassion, safety, and consistency in care.

Pay: $17.00/hour
