WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structural Engineer - Bridge Inspection Assistant Team Leader!

This role will be to join our exceptional Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team in New Jersey, which works out of our Lawrenceville, NJ office.

Your Impact

  • Contribute to a range of bridge and infrastructure inspection projects.
  • Serve as an Assistant Team Leader for bridge and sign structure inspections.
  • Perform structural engineering tasks and field inspections.
  • Support preparation of bridge load ratings.
  • Develop plans and sketches using Visio and MicroStation.
  • Collaborate independently and with cross-functional teams of engineers on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Support engineering assignments that build technical, interpersonal, and ethical skills.
  • Assist with project research, field work, preliminary repair calculations, and structural analysis.
  • Help prepare cost proposals and scope-of-work documents.
  • Collect, organize, and maintain project documentation.
  • Complete training for assignment-specific tasks.
  • Stay current on structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Make responsible, ethical decisions regarding company funds, resources, and conduct while following WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform other duties as business needs require.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience with bridge and/or ancillary structure inspection projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, or ability to obtain it within one year of hire.
  • Proficient understanding of structural engineering principles, practices, processes, and their application to project-related issues.
  • Demonstrated interest in structures, transportation, or a related field, with a strong desire to develop skills aligned with WSP's work and projects.
  • Physical ability to perform continuous field work, including working at heights and in confined spaces; climbing; carrying ladders and equipment; working in adverse weather, at night, and around moving vehicles.
  • Ability to work in and around water, including boat and wader work.
  • Ability to work in a role that may be approximately 50% field-based and 50% office-based.
  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to project team members.
  • Advanced proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and related tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and ability to follow WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules based on project needs, which may include night work, workdays longer than 8 hours, and weekends.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, including potential overnight stays, depending on project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior work or internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • Interest in UAS Drone flying.
  • Interest in obtaining rope access (SPRAT) certification.
