Job description

About The Lane Group
The Lane Group is a Virginia-based engineering consulting firm with a strong legacy of providing specialized consulting and infrastructure engineering services to public-sector clients. The firm is known for delivering technically complex projects through hands-on leadership, rigorous quality control, and long-standing relationships with state and local agencies. The Lane Group's senior leaders are deeply engaged in project execution, client coordination, and mentoring technical staff, ensuring consistency, accountability, and high-quality outcomes across its portfolio.
The Lane Group is now proudly part of Rinker Design Associates, LLC (RDA), a well-established Virginia civil engineering firm with more than four decades of experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, and public works projects throughout the Commonwealth. RDA operates as a subsidiary of Trilon Group, a national family of infrastructure consulting firms focused on transportation, water, utilities, and community development. This partnership allows The Lane Group to maintain its strong local identity and leadership-driven culture while benefiting from expanded technical resources, regional collaboration, and long-term organizational stability.
Position Summary
The Civil Engineer II, P.E. is responsible for performing and supporting the design, analysis, and delivery of civil and infrastructure projects for public-sector clients. This role is suited for a licensed professional engineer who is ready to take increased ownership of project tasks, collaborate closely with project managers and senior engineers, and contribute to high-quality, on-time project delivery.

Hybrid flexibility!
Prepare engineering designs, calculations, plans, and specifications for civil and transportation infrastructure projects.
Support roadway, drainage, site civil, and utility-related design efforts under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers.
Coordinate with internal disciplines, subconsultants, and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
Apply applicable state, federal, and local standards and design criteria to engineering work.

Assist with plan production, technical reports, cost estimates, and permit documentation.
Respond to review comments and support quality control and quality assurance processes.
Provide limited construction-phase support, including responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings as needed.
Participate in mentoring, training, and professional development opportunities.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
Approximately 3-7 years of progressive civil or transportation engineering experience.

Working knowledge of roadway, drainage, and site civil design principles.

Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software.

Familiarity with public-sector project delivery and agency standards is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively within a team environment.
At The Lane Group and Rinker Design Associates, you're more than just an engineer-you're a valued part of a collaborative, mission-driven team that invests in your growth and celebrates your success.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401K Retirement Plan; Roth Contributions
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability
  • Paid time off, including 8 federal holidays
RDA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and maintains a drug-free workplace.
Applicants that require an employment visa sponsorship now or in the future will not be considered.
