Trilon Group Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Infrastructure Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Infrastructure Engineer, you need a solid understanding of networking, operating systems, cloud platforms, and infrastructure architecture, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools like AWS, Azure, VMware, automation frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Terraform), and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Network+ is typical. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help you collaborate across IT and business units and respond effectively to incidents. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring system reliability, security, and scalability in complex technology environments.

What are some common challenges Infrastructure Engineers face when managing large-scale systems?

Infrastructure Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring system scalability, maintaining high availability, and minimizing downtime during updates or incidents. Managing complex environments requires balancing security, performance, and cost efficiency while supporting rapid growth or changes in business needs. Effective communication and collaboration with development, security, and operations teams are also crucial to address issues quickly and maintain seamless service delivery.

What are Infrastructure Engineers?

Infrastructure Engineers are IT professionals responsible for designing, building, managing, and maintaining the foundational technology systems that support organizations. This includes servers, networks, storage, virtualization, and cloud resources. Their main goal is to ensure a reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure that enables business operations and supports application needs. They often collaborate with other IT teams to implement new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.

Job description

Who We Are
Founded in 1980 as Aardvark Financial, TransMarket Group (TMG) is a privately held global markets proprietary trading firm in Chicago. We use next-generation technology to capture opportunities around the world and manage risk in financial markets. Our mission is to bless others through the services we provide and through the generous stewardship of the wealth we create.
TMG is a well-established and profitable business as a respected member of the global financial system for over 40 years, but also is like a startup because the potential of our group is at least one order of magnitude greater than what we are currently producing. We have an entrepreneurial culture and collaboratively develop our business with patience and discipline; we work hard, learn constantly, and relentlessly improve our expertise.
Responsibilities
  • Ownership over our data center infrastructure, tasked with all aspects of keeping it up and operating in an optimal and reliable manner
  • Contacting third-party vendors about remote equipment installation and maintenance and then supervising those projects through completion
  • Performing hardware installation and troubleshooting existing hardware
  • Documenting both new and established procedures to establish and foster best practices firmwide
  • Cooperating with other engineers to provide stable and secure deployments of new infrastructure components
  • Working with network engineers to reliably upgrade and replace old network equipment
  • Developing an automated provisioning system and keeping the inventory system up to date
  • Troubleshooting software issues that might be related to hardware failures
  • Providing in-office hardware support
  • Working as part of an in-office team to collaborate directly with our experienced traders and technologists on brainstorming and implementing creative solutions to a wide range of problems

Requirements
  • BA/BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related experience
  • 2+ years of experience in related field
  • Hands-on experience cabling, racking, and installing bare metal servers, network devices, and network cards
  • Experience with remote management tools for servers (iDrac, iLO)
  • Understanding of automated provisioning tools (PXE, Foreman) and ability to create installation files (kickstart, preseed)
  • Experience with Linux at the administration level (Debian, CentOS)
  • Working experience with Windows is a plus
  • Practical knowledge of inventory tools (Netbox)
  • Good understanding of monitoring tools (Icinga2, Grafana, ELK)
  • Experience with infrastructure management tools (Ansible, Puppet)
  • Good management skills with ticketing and documentation tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience with scripting and automation (Python, Bash or other) is a plus
  • Experience in a low latency environment a strong plus, e.g., Solarflare, Onload, PTP

Additional Requirements
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of core business hours and on weekends.
  • Ability to travel and provide support to other regions occasionally as needed.
  • This position requires physical presence and is onsite (no remote work)

Benefits
We offer one of the most generous profit sharing programs in the industry because we believe our employees should be able to take part in our rapid growth and success. We are proud to offer more world-class benefits for our full-time employees and their families.
TransMarket Group is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, marital status, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected status.
