Professional Civil Engineer (PE-Civil) - Residential Land Development
Position Summary
We are seeking a licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE-Civil) with strong expertise in residential land development projects throughout California. This role is responsible for leading the planning, design, permitting, and construction support of single-family, multi-family, and subdivision developments. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering professional with extensive experience in grading, drainage, stormwater management, and municipal permitting processes.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with clients, municipalities, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, code-compliant designs from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, design, and stamp civil engineering plans including:
Site Plans
Grading Plans
Drainage Plans
Improvement Plans
Erosion Control Plans
Perform grading and earthwork analysis for residential developments, including hillside and complex grading projects.
Design stormwater management systems, detention/retention basins, and hydrologic/hydraulic infrastructure.
Develop and implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) in compliance with:
NPDES requirements
California Construction General Permit (CGP)
SUSMP requirements
Regional Water Quality Control Board standards
Prepare hydrology and hydraulic calculations using industry-standard software.
Coordinate construction staking activities, field verification, and preparation of as-built documentation.
Manage entitlement and permitting processes with California cities, counties, and regulatory agencies.
Respond to plan check comments and secure agency approvals in a timely manner.
Coordinate with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, architects, landscape architects, and utility agencies during project development.
Provide technical support during construction, including:
RFIs
Submittal reviews
Site observations and field visits
Ensure compliance with:
California Building Code
ADA standards
Local municipal ordinances
Fire department requirements
Caltrans standards (where applicable)
Prepare engineering reports, technical exhibits, and construction cost estimates.
Mentor and support junior engineers and CAD designers as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Current California Professional Civil Engineer (PE-Civil) license required.
Minimum experience in residential land development engineering projects.
Strong knowledge of California grading, drainage, and stormwater regulations.
Proven experience obtaining plan approvals from California municipalities and agencies.
Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills.
Valid California driver's license with ability to travel to project sites.
