Maximus is seeking a highly skilled ServiceNow Technical Architect / Lead Developer to provide technical leadership and hands-on development across the enterprise ServiceNow platform supporting Aidvantage and the Federal Student Aid portfolio. This role is well-suited for an experienced ServiceNow professional who excels at balancing strategic platform architecture with high-impact, hands-on development.
This position combines hands-on development (approximately 75%) with platform architecture, solution design, and technical governance (approximately 25%). In this role, you will establish architectural standards, mentor and guide developers, and personally deliver complex, business-critical functionality that enables scalable, high-quality implementations.
As a key technical authority, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders, clients, and development teams to translate business and ITSM/ITIL requirements into robust ServiceNow solutions. You will play a critical role in maintaining platform health, ensuring upgrade readiness, and driving long-term architectural alignment across ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, SPM, CMDB, and App Engine.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and interface with the developers to design, develop, test and implement critical functionality and POCs.
- Work with clients to create strategies and frameworks.
- Architect and design application solutions.
- Guide developers.
- Provide hands-on development support.
- Design software components from business requirements.
- Document and diagram application functionality from business requirements.
Technical Architect Responsibilities (~25%):
- Own end-to-end platform architecture across ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, SPM, CMDB, and App Engine.
- Define and maintain technical standards, design patterns, and architectural guardrails.
- Translate business and ITSM/ITIL requirements into scalable ServiceNow solution designs.
- Review and approve solution designs, data models, integrations, and custom application architectures.
- Serve as the final technical escalation point for complex platform decisions.
- Evaluate new ServiceNow capabilities and recommend adoption aligned with platform health and roadmap.
- Partner with stakeholders to develop architecture strategies and implementation frameworks.
- Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, design artifacts, and technical documentation.
- Mentor and lead other developers
Lead Developer Responsibilities (~75%):
- Perform hands-on JavaScript development including Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, and Flow Designer logic.
- Lead development of complex or high-risk components.
- Build and support custom applications using ServiceNow App Engine.
- Review, refactor, and optimize developer code for architectural alignment and performance.
- Support POCs, upgrade remediation, and complex defect resolution.
Program-Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead requirements analysis and gap assessments for enterprise implementations.
- Design deployment strategies aligned with ITSM and ITIL frameworks.
- Provide architectural oversight for integrations and data flows.
- Ensure upgrade readiness through regression planning and technical validation.
- Maintain audit-ready technical documentation.
- Support SDLC governance and continuous improvement across the platform.
Required Experience:
- 7+ years enterprise IT experience.
- 2+ years ServiceNow architecture and implementation leadership.
- Proven success leading large-scale ServiceNow implementations and upgrades.
- Knowledge across ITOM, ITAM, SPM, GRC, and CMDB preferred
- Strong proficiency in server-side and client-side JavaScript.
Required Certifications:
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA).
- One or more ServiceNow Implementation Specialist certifications.
Additional Requirements as per contract/client:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must reside in the U.S.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must not be delinquent or in default on any federal student loans.
- Employment and continued employment are contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a favorable clearance. Final suitability determination is the sole discretion of the Department of Education/Federal Student Aid.
- Obtaining and Maintaining a PIV-I card is a requirement of this position. PIV-I cards must be picked up in person. New and existing employees may need to travel via car, train, or plane to a designated location to pick up their new or replacement PIV-I card. Any travel expenses will be paid for by Maximus.

Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
