At L'Oréal Research & Innovation (R&I), we are pushing the boundaries of Science & Tech. Our 3,500 R&I experts leverage Science & Technology to invent safe, trustable, and sustainable beauty experiences. Inside our Regulatory Affairs (SRCM) division, we are the guardians of compliance and the enablers of innovation. We are seeking a Director of Regulatory Affairs to serve as a strategic leader for the Americas zone. In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between complex legislation and high-stakes business growth, defending our regulatory policies before major authorities like the FDA and CARB while ensuring our groundbreaking products reach the hands of our consumers safely and swiftly.
A Day in the Life: As a strategic leader in Regulatory Affairs, your responsibilities include:
  • Regulatory Compliance Excellence: Direct the strategy to ensure all products placed on the market comply with local, country, and federal regulations across the Americas zone.
  • Strategic Horizon Scanning: Proactively monitor shifts in the regulatory landscape, providing a strategic framework for their impact and developing formal action plans to meet compliance deadlines.
  • Regulatory Advocacy & Representation: Act as a technical authority before external stakeholders and authorities, including the FDA and CARB, to defend L'Oréal's policies and support the launch of disruptive new projects.
  • Stakeholder Synergy: Develop and maintain a strong interface between U.S.-based R&I and Business divisions, serving as a key partner and subject matter expert for Country/Zone Scientific Directors.
  • Strategic Direction: Partner with the Department Head to define functional direction, driving critical cross-disciplinary projects and ensuring the team's skills are aligned with regional needs.
  • Crisis Leadership: Independently lead the management of complex or fluid regulatory crisis situations, utilizing grounded judgment to protect the brand's integrity and business continuity.
  • Packaging Stewardship: Oversee and support regulatory compliance activities specifically related to innovative packaging solutions.
  • Team Empowerment: Lead by example in a matrix organization, influencing through logic and data-backed rationale to inspire an energized, ethical, and collaborative environment.

We Are Looking For: A strong leader with a passion for innovation, in addition to:
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required. An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) is highly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in Regulatory Affairs within the cosmetic, fragrance, OTC, or consumer healthcare industries.
    • Proven track record in project management and a global vision of the regulatory profession.
    • Experience with packaging regulatory requirements is a significant plus.
  • Technical Acumen:
    • Expertise in independently monitoring and communicating on emerging legislation.
    • Ability to autonomously summarize complex regulatory initiatives for senior business audiences.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Demonstrated grace and even temperament under pressure.
    • Highly ethical with a high level of professional and personal integrity.
    • A collaborative mindset capable of building consensus in a matrixed organization.
  • Mandatory Requirements:
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent, ongoing basis. No immigration support/sponsorship offered for this role
    • The ability to be onsite, in the office at least 3 days a week as an essential function of the position.
