What this job involves:

As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer at JLL-Skae, you'll lead mechanical commissioning activities for data center projects across Canada. This role requires hands-on expertise in commissioning critical mechanical systems from design review through integrated testing and handover. You'll work with cross-functional teams on greenfield builds, expansions, and facility upgrades, primarily in the Toronto metro area with travel to other Canadian provinces. This full-time position offers significant professional growth opportunities within our rapidly expanding North American data center commissioning practice.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:
  • Plan, develop, and execute full lifecycle commissioning (L0-L6) for small, medium, and large-scale data center projects, ensuring exceptional technical delivery and project coordination

  • Lead development, review, and approval of mechanical commissioning test scripts and procedures (L1-L5) while maintaining strong fluency with ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines

  • Perform design drawing, specification, and submittal reviews while producing and validating key mechanical deliverables including Sequences of Operation (SOO) and Test and Balance (TAB) plans

  • Execute hands-on commissioning of critical mechanical equipment including chillers, cooling towers, CDUs, CRAHs, CRACs, RTUs, AHUs, and high-density liquid cooling systems through pre-functional inspections, functional testing, and integrated systems testing

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment issues, documenting findings and coordinating resolution with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders

  • Serve as primary commissioning point of contact for mechanical infrastructure, controls, and monitoring systems throughout project duration

  • Write detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods-of-Procedures (MOPs) while compiling project documentation into site-specific Systems Manuals

  • Support proposal development, team composition planning, budget management, and preparation of detailed client commissioning reports using QA/QC software such as BIM360, CxAlloy, and Facility Grid

  • Conduct network diagnostic testing, heat load testing, scenario testing, and integrated systems validation to ensure facility performance and readiness

Desired experience and technical skills:Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of documented data center and/or mission critical commissioning experience, ideally with greenfield projects of 25MW+ capacity

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in third-party commissioning of controls/automation systems, chillers (air and water cooled), cooling towers, CDUs, CRAHs, CRACs, RTUs, and AHUs

  • Strong project management and coordination skills with proven ability to manage multiple concurrent commissioning activities and maintain effective stakeholder communications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong proficiency in MS Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

  • Ability to travel overnight up to 30% to client sites across Canada (typically not exceeding two-week durations)

Preferred:
  • Experience commissioning data center high-density liquid cooling systems

  • Accredited engineering or technology degree (equivalent industry experience acceptable)

  • Commissioning Professional certification from recognized industry authority

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng/PE) designation

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Estimated compensation for this position:

125,400.00 - 156,840.00 CAD per year

This range represents the estimated base salary and actual compensation may differ. Final base salary is determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations. Some roles and employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, benefits, or other compensation.
