Job Title: Electric Locator

**Position can be filled as an Apprentice, 2nd Class, 1st Class depending on qualifications and experience**
JOB SUMMARY
The Electric Locator is responsible for accurately identifying and marking the location of underground electric utility lines, cables, and other buried infrastructure. Using specialized detection equipment, the Electric Locator plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of excavation and construction projects by preventing damage to vital electric systems.
ELECTRIC LOCATOR Apprentice
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under close supervision, must be able to perform locates of underground electric and fiber facilities with the use of utility maps, computer applications, various specialized locate equipment, probe rods, and/or shovel excavation. Must be able to report any discrepancies with verbal and written communications including drawing representations. Assist in working closely with contractors to ensure safe excavation processes are being followed including investigation and reporting of excavation damages.
  • Assist in performing detailed and precise locates of electric and fiber facilities within guidelines of Entergy and Dig Law requirements.
  • Assist in planning, laying out, and directing all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assist in use of maps, computer applications, specialized locate equipment, probe rods, historical records, and/or shovel excavation to ensure proper locates.
  • Help coordinate assistance from other personnel and departments with problem locates.
  • Assist in working closely with state, parish, city, other utilities, and contractors to ensure proper and safe excavation practices are performed around electric and fiber facilities.
  • Assist in first responder to electrical emergency situations recognizing hazards, conduct site assessment, establish control of site and coordinate making site safe.
  • Assist in making thorough and complete investigations of damaged electric and fiber facilities.
  • Assist in operating several computer applications related to the Electric and Fiber Business and locate tickets.

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have worked at least one year in the utility or construction industry performing work requiring a mechanical aptitude with demonstrated use of maps/prints for detailed measurement dimensions for pinpointing facilities with three dimensional measurements. OR One year or experience directly related to the electric and fiber business. OR One year of utility locate experience. Must meet all qualifications within six months after employment.
  • Know Company's safety rules, be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid.
  • General knowledge of electric and fiber Damage Prevention and Locating Standards
  • Obtain/maintain an automobile and truck driver's license, TWIC card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.
  • Know location of and be able to operate all of the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil, gas, and other fires.
  • Satisfactorily complete all necessary and mandatory training requirements associated with the position.

ELECTRIC LOCATOR 2ND CLASS
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under directive supervision, with latitude for planning and laying out of working details with responsibility for timely and accurate results. Must be able to perform precise locates of underground electric and fiber facilities with the use of utility maps, computer applications, various specialized locate equipment, probe rods, and/or shovel excavation. Must be able to accurately report any discrepancies with detailed verbal and written communications including precise drawing representations. Works closely with contractors to ensure safe excavation processes are being followed including investigation and reporting of excavation damages.
  • Perform all duties of an Electric Locator Apprentice.
  • Perform detailed and precise locates of electric and fiber facilities within guidelines of Entergy and Dig Law requirements.
  • Plan, lay-out, and direct all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Use of maps, computer applications, specialized locate equipment, probe rods, historical records, and/or shovel excavation to ensure proper locates.
  • Coordinate assistance from other personnel and departments with problem locates.

  • Must have worked at least five years in the utility or construction industry performing work requiring a mechanical aptitude with demonstrated use of maps/prints for detailed measurement dimensions for pinpointing facilities with three dimensional measurements. OR Five years or experience directly related to the electric and fiber business. OR Five years of utility locate experience.
  • Must have held a lead position in utility field operations requiring planning, monitoring and directing work for the group.
  • Assist in planning, laying-out, monitoring and directing all work within the work group in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Know Company's safety rules, be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electric and fiber Damage Prevention and Locating Standards
  • Have and maintain an automobile and truck driver's license, TWIC card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.
  • Know location of and be able to operate all firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil, gas, and other fires.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be available for 24 hour call out and extended hours as necessary including nights, weekends and holidays as a provider of essential services, Entergy expects its employees to be available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and/or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company.
