    Overview
    AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. With a nationwide presence, AARP strengthens communities and advocates for what matters most to the more than 100 million Americans 50-plus and their families: health and financial security, and personal fulfillment. AARP also works for individuals in the marketplace by sparking new solutions and allowing carefully chosen, high-quality products and services to carry the AARP name. As a trusted source for news and information, AARP produces the nation's largest-circulation publications, AARP The Magazine and the AARP Bulletin.
    The AARP Ohio team seeks a creative and execution-oriented Integrated Communications and Engagement Intern to support digital communications, social media, and event-based storytelling. This role offers hands-on experience across content creation, audience engagement, and event promotion. The intern will help bring AARP Ohio's work to life through compelling digital content and on-the-ground event support, contributing to integrated campaigns that connect with communities across the state. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Fall 2026 and will run through the end of the year, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.
    Responsibilities
    • Create and schedule social media content aligned with advocacy campaigns and community engagement efforts
    • Support planning and promotion of events through email, social media, and communications toolkits
    • Capture and produce real-time content at events (photo, video, short-form storytelling)
    • Assist in maintaining and executing the social media content calendar
    • Develop graphics and visual assets using PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe, Capcut, or similar tools
    • Support email marketing and digital communications efforts
    • Track and report on social and digital performance metrics
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to support campaign execution

    Qualifications
    • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university as a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
    • Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
    • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe, or similar design tools
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
    • Ability to work well with diverse populations, including age, gender, race, and sexual orientation
    • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; familiarity with analytics tools is a plus

    Hybrid Work Environment

    Compensation and Benefits
    The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
