About This Role

We are looking for an experienced Bike Mechanic who can be a leader in our extremely busy service department. A passion for cycling, knowledge of bicycle mechanics and bicycle parts, and a proactive and problem solving attitude are qualities at the top of our list! **A minimum of 1-2 years experience working as a mechanic in a bicycle shop is a requirement for this position.


In this job you will assist our Service Manager, simultaneously and independently with the following:

  • Perform a variety of service functions on customers' bikes, including tune-ups, rebuilds, flat tire repairs, brake/shift adjustments, brake bleeds etc.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve problems on bikes that are brought in for service.
  • Assemble and prepare bikes for sale
  • Install accessories on recently purchased bikes
  • Provide customer service through direct and detailed interaction with customers at time of drop off and/or pickup following Farina's protocols.

What You'll Do

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Apply shop standards and follow protocols in the assembly and repair of bikes (includes tune-ups, flat tire repairs, gear adjustments, accessory installations etc.)
  • Evaluate the mechanical condition of bikes and determine what is needed to properly repair
  • Follow detailed work and sales orders to accurately complete job and paperwork
  • Assist in receiving and accurately checking in bicycle & parts orders
  • Maintain shop cleanliness including bench and common workspace.
  • Align wheels, adjust brakes and brake pads, adjust shifter & brake cables, install tires etc.
  • Clean and maintain bicycles in our rental bike fleet
  • Explain basic product information to customers who are picking up new bikes or rentals
  • Assist in receiving and unloading deliveries of bikes and other equipment
  • Other duties as needed/assigned.

Requirements

Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Minimum 1 year experience working as a technician/mechanic in a bike shop.
  • Must be familiar with and comfortable working on a variety of bikes with older and newer technologies including caliper/disc/hydraulic brakes, friction/indexed/electronic shifting, tubeless tires, and a basic knowledge of electric bike hub motors.
  • Capable of perfectly assembling entry level to high end bicycles
  • Interest in working in a team environment committed to providing an exceptional customer experience
  • Strong attention to detail and directions
  • Ability to clearly communicate with other employees and customers in a professional manner
  • Interest in developing own skills, knowledge and career as a professional tradesperson
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule based on seasonal business needs, which includes working on most Saturdays
  • Ability to lift bicycles and boxes that weigh between 20-60 pounds
