What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Business Development Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Business Development Manager, you need strong sales acumen, market research abilities, and a background in business or related fields—often supported by a bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with CRM software (like Salesforce), lead generation tools, and data analysis platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills help set top performers apart. These competencies are crucial for identifying new opportunities, driving revenue growth, and building lasting client partnerships.

How does a Business Development Manager typically collaborate with other departments to achieve growth objectives?

Business Development Managers frequently work cross-functionally, coordinating closely with sales, marketing, product, and finance teams. This collaboration ensures that growth strategies are aligned with the company’s overall goals, product capabilities, and market positioning. For example, they may partner with marketing to develop targeted campaigns, work with product teams to tailor offerings for prospective clients, and consult finance to evaluate the profitability of new business opportunities. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for success in this role.

What does a Business Development Manager do?

A Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with potential clients, and driving growth for their organization. They analyze market trends, develop strategies to expand the company's customer base, and often negotiate contracts or partnerships. Their role requires strong communication and analytical skills, as well as the ability to work closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to achieve business goals.

About Persona

Persona is the configurable identity platform built for businesses in a digital-first world. Verifying individuals and organizations is harder - but more important - than ever, with AI enabling fraudsters to launch sophisticated accounts at scale and regulations evolving rapidly.

We've built Persona to support practically every use case and industry - that's why we're able to serve a wide range of leading companies. For example, Reddit relies on Persona for age assurance and verification to comply with online safety regulations, protecting younger users while maintaining a seamless experience. Meanwhile, OpenAI relies on Persona to keep bad actors out, protecting one of the world's most powerful AI platforms from large-scale abuse in a time when AI is reshaping the way we work and live.

We're growing rapidly and looking for exceptional people to join us!

About the Role

Persona is looking for a high-performing sales professional to drive revenue and business growth across our customer segments, from high-growth startups to the world's largest global enterprises. This role is responsible for owning the full sales cycle, landing new logos, and building durable customer relationships that scale with Persona's platform.

The ideal candidate brings a consultative, process-driven sales approach and is energized by selling a complex, technical product to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional buying experiences, shape our go-to-market motion, and help define the standards for how Persona sells as we continue to grow.

This is an opportunity to join a world-class sales organization where you can accelerate your career, influence GTM strategy, and make a meaningful impact on Persona's growth.

What you'll do at Persona

  • Own the full sales cycle from discovery through close using a consultative, customer-first approach

  • Drive net-new customer acquisition and build pipeline across a defined territory or segment

  • Partner closely with Sales Engineers and cross-functional teams to design and position tailored solutions

  • Deliver compelling presentations that simplify technical and contractual concepts for diverse stakeholders

  • Develop and execute account and territory strategies that support revenue growth and predictability

  • Maintain strong pipeline hygiene and clearly communicate deal health, risks, and next steps

  • Build deep product, market, and competitive expertise to advise customers effectively

  • Contribute to the evolution of Persona's go-to-market motion by piloting and scaling sales best practices

What you'll bring to Persona

  • 2+ years of proven experience carrying a quota in a B2B SaaS sales role with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets

  • Experience managing the full customer acquisition lifecycle from lead qualification to close

  • Strong ability to sell a technical product to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate value

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage sales cycles of varying length and complexity

  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort operating with autonomy in a fast-paced environment

  • Customer-centric mindset with a passion for building relationships and telling customer stories

  • Proficiency with modern sales and productivity tools such as SFDC, Apollo, Notion, Slack, and Google

Full-time Employee Benefits and Perks

For full-time employees (excluding internship and contractor opportunities), Persona offers a wide range of benefits, including medical, dental, and vision, 3% 401(k) contribution, unlimited PTO, quarterly mental health days, family planning benefits, professional development stipend, wellness benefits, among others. While we believe competitive compensation and benefits are a critical aspect of you deciding to join us, we do hope you consider why our core values and culture are right for you.
