Job description

The starting rate for the position is $30.27 per hour but may go up based on experience. This is a part-time (20-29 hours per week) remote position with 20-30% travel required.


The Nutrition Integration Specialist is primarily responsible for advancing and promoting integrated nutrition services and food as medicine programs in Michigan Health Centers. The Specialist will be responsible for implementing food and nutrition project activities (funded through various sources) on behalf of the Association and its members, leading coordination and development of supportive training and resources, and lending key support and expertise to related workforce development and other Association initiatives.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


  1. Serve as the primary subject matter expert in nutrition and health and nutrition service delivery; provide expert consultation, technical assistance, and recommendations to the Association and its members
  2. Support Association members in implementing nutrition service delivery and coordinate Association projects focused on integrating food and nutrition services into primary care settings
  3. Assist the Association and its members in developing workforce strategies to integrate nutrition professionals into care teams or expand the knowledge and skills of existing licensed and unlicensed care team members to support nutrition service delivery.
  4. Support Association members in leveraging available food benefit programs and resources, including Medicaid In Lieu of Services, SNAP, university extensions, and other related resources.
  5. Engage relevant health center staff in working groups and member communities and plan and create relevant content for Association member training and events.
  6. Collaborate with Association staff, its members and external partners around the needs and interests of community health centers relevant to food and nutrition systems and benefits, including fostering partnerships and relationships with community-based programs and other resource organizations.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Nutrition service delivery in healthcare settings.
  • Community-based primary health care systems and the needs of medically underserved populations.
  • Basic knowledge of Health Information Technology and Informatics.
  • Community partnership development, community outreach
  • Working understanding of applicable health policy
  • Familiarity with project management tools.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, in addition to electronic communication mediums.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or equivalent degree
  • Registered Dietitian preferred
  • Nutrition experience in an outpatient/integrated practice, public health or community setting preferred
