Job Summary:

Responsible for operating and maintaining a cutter, folder, or stitcher machine in a safe and productive manner. Maintains a high level of quality on jobs by following each job's instructions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operates a cutter, folder, or stitcher machine
  • Meets or exceeds the average production expected daily
  • Uses the PSI system daily and inputs accurate information into the system and writes counts on the production sheet
  • Follows department procedures when cutting stock orders
  • Weigh and verifies all work being delivered out of the shop from the cutter
  • Trains new and existing employees on proper procedures relating to job quality standards, and safety
  • Works in other departments as required
  • Works overtime and weekends as required
  • Reads and understands job instructions before starting any job
  • Cuts small lifts at beginning of the job to compare forms proof to finished product; check for offset from cutter; correct size; consistency of cuts; finish fold
  • Ensures quality throughout the job
  • Pulls good clean samples for the customer, jacket, sales, and Mail House
  • Keeps waste to a minimum
  • Wipes cutter bed down and oil spindle every day
  • Blows filters from pumps and cleans weekly
  • Cleans and sweeps work area daily
  • Helps keep the entire bindery clean and always organized
  • Replaces dull blades on cutters when needed
  • Ensures equipment is maintained properly and all guards are in place
  • Knows and follows the safety procedures of the department
  • Reports work-related injuries to supervisor
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to read and use a ruler

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
