Job description
The Safety Engineer will support a fast-paced manufacturing/start-up environment by helping establish and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively identifying and reducing workplace risks. This position will have a strong presence on the production floor and work closely with employees, supervisors, engineering, maintenance, and operations leadership.
The ideal candidate is hands‑on, proactive, and comfortable working independently while supporting a growing second‑shift operation.
Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday through Thursday: 5:30 PM - 4:00 AM
Responsibilities- Conduct routine floor inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and drive corrective actions to completion.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses and perform root-cause analysis.
- Support compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.
- Develop and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and employee communications.
- Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, PPE, hazard communication, ergonomics, electrical safety, and emergency response programs.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs/JSA) and risk assessments for new and existing processes.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations during equipment installation, process changes, and new-product/start-up activities.
- Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, corrective-action tracking, and safety metrics.
- Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices and help strengthen accountability for safety.
- Serve as the primary safety resource for second-shift operations.
- Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of environmental health, fire safety or safety experience

- Master's degree and no experience
OR
- At least 3 years of environmental health, fire safety or safety experience
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
- 3–5+ years of safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, automotive, warehousing, or a start-up environment.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) requirements.
- Experience with LOTO, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, PPE, HazCom, ergonomics, fall protection, and electrical safety.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analysis (RCA).
- Ability to recognize hazards and make practical, risk-based recommendations.
- Strong communication and coaching skills with both hourly employees and management.
- Comfortable challenging unsafe practices and holding employees and leaders accountable professionally.
- Able to work independently with limited safety leadership present on second shift.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.
- Experience in anew facility, manufacturing launch, equipment installation, or rapidly changing start-up environment is highly desirable.
