Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
The 24-hour department technician is responsible for performing prepress duties, work order prioritization and management, machine setup, calibration and troubleshooting, process troubleshooting, and quality control for the 24-hour department. The 24-hour department technician will also be responsible for providing daily direction and support to 24-hour department production personnel to include establishing priorities, assisting with machine setup, and troubleshooting, quality review and control, and production support as necessary to fulfill daily priority shipments. Additionally, the 24-hour department technician will take the lead in communicating with customer service and design personnel to support new product development and launches, order fulfillment, and order troubleshooting.
Pay: Based on Experience
Shift: 10am - 6pm
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Prepress duties to include imposition, color correction, and layout generation.
Prioritize and manage daily orders to ensure due dates are met.
Machine setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
Quality control.
Order consumables and spare parts.
Interface with equipment service technicians/plant maintenance to quickly and efficiently resolve equipment issues.
Provide direction and support to production personnel.
Coordinate and communicate with CS and design personnel.
New product development and testing.
Timely communication of any order delays and/or equipment outages.
Serve as primary backup for Senior 24-hour department technician.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE NEEDED:
Solid understanding of prepress protocols/file formats, printshop workflow, bindery operations, and product development. Ability to stay organized and focus a must.
Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers with fractions and be able to use percentages and ratios).
Ability to effectively communicate with superiors, co-workers, and production personnel.
Ability to handle multi-tasked assignments, prioritize, and work with a sense of urgency.
Skilled in equipment operation and setup, troubleshooting, and repair.
Skilled in utilizing computers (Mac/PC), software applications, Adobe InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator. Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems beneficial but not required.
