The electric energy industry is rapidly changing.  Our Power Delivery practice continues to experience growth opportunities driven by our focused client service approach and our commitment for delivering quality solutions. The increasing infrastructure build out continues to drive market opportunities throughout the United States and an increased in regional focus we will be positioned to support the growth of our practice. 

HDR is seeking a strategic-minded South-Central Region Delivery Practice Lead to partner with our internal client, project, and operational teams and with our clients to sculpt the strategies around diversification and growth of power delivery services to support the evolution of the power grid.

Primary Responsibilities  

The South-Central Region Power Delivery Practice Lead is a regional role and part of the overall power delivery leadership team at HDR. The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Develop strategy, set goals and drive results for HDR's power delivery practice of the future.  These actions are achieved through HDR's matrix structure with partnership with peer practice and technical leaders in hydropower, renewable generation, thermal generation, and grid modernization.
  • Collaborate with peer leaders in business lines across the engineering and architecture business lines at HDR.
  • Represent HDR as our regional power delivery lead in the industry.  This includes with key clients, at industry conferences and as a thought leader in technology development circles. 
  •  Nurture relationships with clients to understand their challenges and strategies as they continue to evolve and align for the future.
  • Create a cohesive practice across multiple offices, disciplines, and power delivery services. Build and maintain unity around long-term strategies with diverse teams.
  • Establish and drive objectives that support the HDR annual and the five-year strategic plans for the power delivery business.  This includes client development, strategic recruitment initiatives and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with local and regional operations, client development leaders, and power delivery leadership team on staffing, workload, and workshare with other offices across the practice to support both regional client growth and current and potential workshare.
  • Partner with HDR stakeholders and clients to explore and execute on HDR's priorities for capital deployment models.
  • Develop strategy and identify teaming partner relationships that enhance HDR's market position. Support the development of these relationships.
  • Support staff development.  Assess HDR's power delivery staff and partner with leadership to position HDR's talent to match the needs of the future through technical and leadership development programs.
  • Participate in power market sector efforts such as strategic planning initiatives, business development, and internal operations synergies to maximize client satisfaction and HDR success.
  • Partner with HDR operations leadership to implement strong staffing and financial goals.
  • Serve as principal project manager on select projects and an advisor to more junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering related discipline
  • Minimum of 12 or more years strategic leadership experience focused on developing and leading technical teams providing solutions for large scale power delivery projects and programs
  • Maintain Texas Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain reciprocity
  • Preferred experience working with a variety of client types including regulated and non-regulated utilities, Independent Power Producers, municipalities, mission-critical facility owners/developers, and other public and private clients
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in related field
  • Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
