Job Description - Google Cloud Platform Cloud Engineer, Pre-Onboarding Advisory

Location: Charlotte, NC (3 days a week onsite)

Role Purpose

Provide hands-on technical guidance to application teams during cloud pre-onboarding. Convert discussions into actionable readiness findings, resolve routine Google Cloud Platform questions and connect teams to the appropriate architecture, security or governance decision makers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in application-team discovery, office hours, readiness reviews and architecture clinics.
  • Capture workload inventory, dependencies, non-functional needs, identity needs, data considerations and operational expectations.
  • Use the agreed intake, qualification, scorecard, evidence and handoff templates consistently.
  • Explain relevant Google Cloud Platform platform patterns and help teams prepare the inputs expected by the cloud onboarding process.
  • Identify missing information, blockers and exceptions; resolve routine issues and escalate architectural decisions to the Advisory Lead.
  • Record decisions, frequently asked questions, friction points and candidate pattern improvements at source.
  • Coordinate follow-ups with customer teams and maintain continuity through the warm handoff.
  • Review offshore-prepared case packs and ensure they accurately reflect customer discussions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 6+ years in cloud engineering or technical consulting, including 3+ years with Google Cloud Platform.
  • Practical knowledge of Google Cloud Platform projects, networking, IAM, compute, containers, data services, logging and monitoring.
  • Experience assessing application architectures and translating technical findings into readiness actions.
  • Strong workshop, listening, documentation and customer-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to distinguish guidance from formal security, risk or approval decisions.
  • Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect certification is preferred.

Success Measures

  • Case records are complete, accurate and usable without repeated discovery.
  • Routine questions are resolved promptly and genuine exceptions reach the correct owner.
  • Application teams understand their next actions, evidence requirements and handoff path.
  • Onsite findings are transferred to the offshore advisor with minimal information loss.
