Job description

At Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH), our mission is rooted in empowering individuals and strengthening communities. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated full-time START Service Coordinator to join our Child First START Team serving the Craven County area.

This isn’t just a job — you will be making a meaningful impact by supporting families navigating substance use and mental health challenges while helping create safer, healthier futures for children and caregivers.

Your Role in Our Mission

As a START Service Coordinator, your days will be filled with meaningful, impactful work! You will support families enrolled in the START program by conducting timely substance use and co-occurring mental health assessments and making treatment recommendations using ASAM criteria.

You’ll partner with child welfare professionals, family mentors, and treatment providers to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed care that prioritizes child safety. Your role will include guiding parents through complex systems, advocating for services, coordinating care with Medicaid and community partners, and monitoring provider capacity.

You will also maintain accurate tracking for up to 24 families, participate in team meetings to share progress and address challenges, and build strong relationships with community stakeholders through collaboration and outreach.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary: $57,000 to $59,000 for this full-time position
  • Flexible, nontraditional work schedule - work can be performed virtually and/or DSS Craven County
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong clinical foundation with experience in substance use and co-occurring disorders
  • Education:
    o Master’s degree with licensure and 2+ years of experience OR
    o Bachelor’s degree in human services with QP status and CADC (Master’s preferred)
  • Knowledge of ASAM Placement Criteria and levels of care
  • Experience with substance use disorder core functions, including assessment and treatment planning
  • Familiarity with co-occurring mental health disorders and treatment approaches
  • Proficiency in Motivational Interviewing and working with individuals in various stages of change
  • Strong collaboration, organization, and communication skills
