Databricks Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Product Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Designer, you need a strong foundation in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, visual communication, and problem-solving, typically supported by a degree in design or a related field. Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping software is essential, along with familiarity with user research methods. Strong collaboration, empathy, and communication skills help Product Designers gather user feedback and work effectively with cross-functional teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for creating user-centered products that are both functional and visually appealing, ensuring a positive impact on business goals.

How does a Product Designer typically collaborate with engineers and product managers during the development process?

Product Designers work closely with engineers and product managers throughout the development lifecycle. They participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure design feasibility, communicate user needs, and iterate on feedback. Designers often create prototypes and user flows, which are shared with engineers for technical input and with product managers to align on business goals. This collaborative approach ensures that the final product is both user-friendly and technically viable, while also meeting project timelines and objectives.

What are Product Designers?

Product Designers are professionals who create and improve products by focusing on both their functionality and user experience. They work at the intersection of design, technology, and business to develop products that are visually appealing, user-friendly, and meet market needs. Their responsibilities typically include conducting user research, creating prototypes, collaborating with engineers, and iterating designs based on feedback. Product Designers often work on digital products like apps and websites, but their skills can extend to physical products as well.

Job description

RDQ427R273
Mission
At Databricks, our mission is to simplify and democratize data and AI so more organizations can solve the world's toughest problems. As a Product Designer focused on AI/BI experiences, your mission is to make advanced analytics, generative AI, and business intelligence intuitive, trustworthy, and actionable for both technical and non-technical users.
As a Product Designer focused on AI/BI experiences, you won't just design dashboards or workflows. You'll design how humans and AI think together.
You'll help define what it feels like to ask a question of your company's data in plain language - and receive an answer you can trust. You'll shape how insights are generated, explained, challenged, and shared. You'll craft the bridge between complex AI systems and real human decisions. You'll be working closely with the product and engineering teams based in Seattle.
The impact you will have:
  • Reimagine how users explore data using natural language and AI assistance
  • Design interactions that make AI-generated insights transparent and trustworthy
  • Create experiences that move from exploration → validation → action in minutes
  • Enable collaboration between data engineers, analysts, and business leaders
  • Help define new design patterns for AI-native enterprise software
  • Influence long-term AI/BI strategy, contributing to how Databricks differentiates in the modern analytics landscape.

What we look for:
  • 5+ years of product design work experience.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent, with specialization in HCI, Interaction Design, graphic design, computer science, or related disciplines.
  • You're comfortable talking to strategic customers in key decision-making positions.
  • Experience shipping great digital products. We strongly believe that a designer's involvement never stops. You should be comfortable overseeing and impacting the entire process from idea to GA.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large and complex design projects and balance the needs of diverse stakeholders.
  • Can execute beautiful visual and interaction work that's rooted in a data-driven and well-researched UX process.
  • A system thinker who has the vision to design the big picture, and the tactical ability to break it down so that engineering can succeed in building it incrementally.
  • You have a unique combination of technical knowledge and visual design skills, which allows you to design powerful and intuitive engineering tooling.
  • A portfolio showcasing the end-to-end design process.
  • Experience designing products in the Cloud, Developer Experience, AI, or Big Data space is a nice-to-have.
  • Coding React, SQL, CSS, and/or Python is a nice-to-have.
